Thanks wallydubbs, very good addition to the debate.

Of course it is a fair and probable posibility, sure, but honestly I did not think that when reading WoM epilogue for the first time. I understood it more in the sense of a new expansion will be released to be played after WoM. Yeah, maybe I am dreaming, but I am one of the ones who still think AH has at least another expansion being produced. It is a bias in my interpretation of course, but not reading the word "blight" on WoM epilogue, nor giving any explicit reference to "crystalline growths" on the bird, I think can still keep enough open the conection with JoD events to link the end of WoM to whatever other new expansion set comes after WoM. Moreover, Loretome reveals in JoD prologue that the blight was caused by the Diadem relic theft... and we all know that Loretome always says the truth!

Anyway, yes, the bird death is so illustrative and can perfectly match with the beginning of JoD. I would not be the one who would say such previous connection with WoM is not possible, yeah.

We will see if a new expansion appears or not to give more light to this.

I believe there will be at least 1 more expansion. Baker Made 3 Quest packs when Hasbro brought him back for the remake. We have yet to see the 3rd quest pack. Somehow I'm thinking there might be a a final quest pack to defeat Zargon.

It's possible I'm overthinking the blight. You've made a good point. I was thinking the rift that causes the blight was opened by the Dread Shrine, but they couldn't close it without the Emberwrought Diadem. Fair enough, though, I just didn't rightly understand how to justify what happened to the songbird. But I DO believe we will have at least 1 more quest pack. However I DON'T think it will be linked the Crypt of Perpetual Darkness... Which still needs an ending.

As HispaZargon said on page 23 it mentions the Witch of the Wyrd in Witch`s Hut .

Does this mean it actually takes place after Jungles ?
I dont know it is a bit confusing right now

Baker did say 3 yes , so we have Prophecy of Telor , First Light but have 5 more quests in WOM.
Maybe Baker did it and considers it another questbook ?
Lets hope you are right and there is another one , the final confrontation with Zargon would be awesome

...The thing that I'm struggling with is:

If you place WoM after either RotDM or JoD, I can't find information anywhere that explains:
- That Sir Ragnar broke out of prison.
- That Sir Ragnar was exonerated for assisting Skullmar's prison break or aiding Zargon against the Queen Terrellia.
By the end of WoM, everyone is perfectly fine with Sir Ragnar being back in a position serving the King o_o...

So, to me, the story has a bunch of plot holes that I would like explained and without relying on assumptions.
I would very much love to find some information that explains my issues with the above.

If you or anyone else for that matter could point them out I'd very much appreciate it.

Well, agree about there are details of the story missing in between. You can like or dislike them, believe them or not, but I would not call the ones you mention as plotholes since they are things that we suspect have actually happened sometime but we just don't know how nor the exact moment.

I see it like the events from First Light, they happen in parallel to the Game System campaign, but when playing RotWL nobody actually needs to know in advance what Kessandria did in FL before RotWL events. Then, I don't see the need of knowing how Sir Ragnar escaped before WoM. Of course it is cool such background for the story telling, but not for playing I think. The bad thing is if there are contradictions in the story the Heroes are playing through a pack-chain of games, sure, so thats what I would try to avoid with the order I proposed in my previous post.

Well, I guess since you said AH recommends playing it after RotDM that must be the intended placement.
That said, although I don't necessarily agree with everything you said, that's probably more of a ME problem, and I'm being pedantic wanting everything to in the story line up properly.
But, I still feel Sir Ragnar being pardoned is a bit odd o_o.

Thanks for all the input everyone ^_^.

Perhaps they will finish the set of packs they began in the 90s: Barbarian Quest (FH), Elf Quest (tMotM), Wizard Quest (if google is right (The Sinister Sorcerors)), Dwarf Quest (??)
I heard that they were basically done with Wizards Quest Pack.
Also, maybe Dark Company o.o?

I suppose a conclusion would be preferable to not having the final confrontation at all...
It would be a shame to finish it now but here in Australia I haven't seen any marketing or announcements concerning the expansions since Daddy Zargon went away for Christmas one year and never came back (can't remember if he said he was going to the shops for smokes or not >_>) to me it suggests it could be winding down OR they haven't been advertising new expansions over here -_-'.

It seems with every single quest pack release, the rumor that "this is the end!" or "they're winding down" gets repeated all over the internet. To be honest, it drives me a little crazy. haha

I thought it worth sharing what Michael (Avalon Hill Product Management Team) posted to the official Avalon Hill Discord just yesterday (Feb. 17, 2026) (Bolded text added by me for emphasis):
Michael @ Avalon Hill wrote:Many things hide in the inricate workings of Zargon's master plan.... While I cannot reveal this master plan, I can tell you that the HQ team is hard at work. For now, we will celebrate the launch of Wizards of Morcar which is a massive milestone for us as a team as we continue to prepare, plan, and create what comes next for adventurers in the world of HeroQuest...

(I cannot confirm or deny any future development and roadmaps haha - I will say that HeroQuest is a major part of Avalon Hill and brand we are VERY excited for the future of.)

Yeah, I admit I was a little scared when the Hasbro layoffs happened and over-reacted. A lot of people are pinning this as the "last one" because of the stocks running out and it being "the last expansion" box from the classic/legacy era... and the App expiring. BUT, none of those things of themselves (or in combination) means "the end" and their statements thus far shows they are committed to continuing the franchise, not just keeping it stocked (setting aside issues with stocks running out in places like Germany or select ones in Spain).

The relative lack of public hype over releases and advance official info is annoying and frustrating to fans, but not a sign of any "doom, the end of official HeroQuest is nigh" I agree.

There's still legacy content left they could remake AND plenty of potential for new stuff to release, as well as rumors of things that are on the horizon for release.

Much like the "how do these rules actually work?" the "is HeroQuest about to end?" questions will never end, no matter how much we try, I feel.

Firstly, I apologies if it seemed like I was spouting doom & gloom, that wasn't the intention.
Secondly, thank you so very much for the link Nlinindoll, I have been struggling to find somewhere that gives news and updates on the latest content of HeroQuest. I checked Hasbro's website, AH's website, AH's facebook page but without any luck.
Perhaps now I'll be in the loop!

The fact I couldn't find any new information anywhere I looked is what made me consider the winding down in the first place xD.
Not seeing anything promoting the new expansions also didn't help, compared when it first released, it felt like the hype from AH or Hasbro was declining.

Kurgan did a good job listing the reasons why people could be thinking this way (some of which I wasn't aware of).

Anyway, thanks again Nlinindoll, the link you provided should hopefully put peoples minds at ease, if only for a while xD.

Hi Daedalus,

Thanks so much for that, I hope anything I've added to the forum helps others from the questions I've asked to the answers the others have given me ^_^.

Also, thanks for letting us know about the spoiler tags not working.
