I wish. If there is never a remake I'm afraid the game will die with us. I assume most of us are in our 30s or close. Younger role playing fans will have a hard time getting there hands on the materials. Someone on this site has to know who's got the rights. We should petion them or games workshop or MB. If that doesn't work then like Sadkitchen said. I'm assuming most of us are adults someone's got money start the remake I'll buy.

The problem is that all of us could find the money to purchase 1 or 2 copies of a GOOD remake. But none of us have the money to actually make and distribute said remake. (Mega Millions still hasn't provided the seed money for me yet :) )

My hobby is designing an RPG.

If we all were to pool ur efforts and co create a new and exciting board game in the tradition of high fantasy I bet we could come up with a real winner. Hell I bet we have many hundreds of years of combined gamming experiance and a collective inate knowledge of game theory that would be hard to rival by any group.

:)
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

As for me - 34 years of age, here.
Nearly 20 years of fantasy world setting design in my experience;
nearly 10 years of game design, with 8 or so years of rpg play and
design.
Also - BA in Creative Writing, a minor in economics.

Yes I'm 22 ;) !

I'm already creating a homemade rpg as a hobby when I have time. It's called DungeonZ! (http://dungeonz-jdr.blogspot.com/)

My idea is to provide everything you need to play the game in PDF file ready to print. In practice, my system only uses:
- D6 dice
- some modular board like Warhammer Quest or the other I provide on my blog
- I also use Heroquest minis + others. (i planned to create some monsters tokens as well, in order to provide an alternative)
- Custom cards (the size is really small, so you can print more on one page)
- a free to use rulebook (only 5 pages !) + other expansion rules (like travels, cities, etc)

Having created this much material, I think I now have some experience in designing a game and I can totally go along with Cynthialee ! In my opinion, the best way to provide a serious successor to Heroquest would be a free RPG game system made by the community, made available in ready-to-print PDF's.

The system should use
- D6 dice because everyone have them
- modular dungeon tiles because they fit on a A4 page to print
- Tokens to represent monsters, treasures, heroes, furnitures, etc. This allows people to play directly. if they want miniatures, they can replace the tokens !
- a 5 to 10 pages MAXIMUM core rulebook for DUNGEONS, then additional rules for additional settings (such as playing in cities, wilderness, etc)
- High quality cards in a ready-to-print PDF.
- The price to print everything in laser quality should be below 50€ (I count +/- 0.60€ per page in my country).

In addition to my previous post, We could use 2.5D called miniatures for players and monsters in the place of tokens. But this requires much more assembling (cutting, glue, etc), but comes in the end as a CHEAP and fabulous alternative the ordinary miniatures and add 3d to the Board.

The same should apply to the furnitures, it is quite simple to create basic shapes such as cube, rectangle, cylinder with high quality texture, like the actual furnitures in Heroquest.

wow impressive

I have been working on an old school pen and paper game . It exclusively uses the D20 in a dice pool style mechanics system.

http://www.lulu.com/product/hardcover/s ... f/center/3

It is almost complete so I have some time.

I am more of a mechanics and system person myself. My art tallents are none existant.

I agree on the D 6 as the basis of a board game. Less of a learning curve for the gamer newbs.
I like the modular design. Recently I picked up the D&D basic dungeon tile set and added it to my personal RPG for the last game we played and I realy liked it. Beats a board that is very limited.
Cards are fun, but one of the flaws that HQ has is that there are cards that rarely enter play. Cards shouldn't just sit in an unussed pile durring a game, they should be a dynamic part of the game experiance.
I really like those 2.5D mini's. I personally wouldn't use them as I have a proper colloection of minis to do the job. But if I did not have mini's I would be all over those 2.5D ones.
Gold should be tolkens so that the players actually collect a small treasure trove of tokens. Makes the good players feel like they have a tangebile item and it keeps the cheeters in check.
As to a 5-10 page book...I do not now that an epic fantasy game that is modular, and board gamesque in function can be covered properly in so few pages. Perhaps a basic rules set and an advanced rules set...
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

maiko - quite impressive on the paper minis. Did you create those yourself? By hand and then scan? or totally on the computer?

As long as there is no news for HQ to reach the wider audience
the game will wither and eventually die.
We should make an efford or a petition to the right ears.
Who has the rights for the game? Why MB or whoever has the rights don't make a poll
to see if there is a market alive and beating to buy this Masterpiece?
Im sure it will outsell everything! The atmosphere of this game was & is phenomenal.
And for the love of God if ever we make it we should not turn it into a CashCow like MtG or AD&D.
The game should stay true to its core. Simple yet deep enough and
accessible to everyone!
Final thoughts... We must take a chance! Either we get a new product of what we love or
lose our favorite sites along with the game due to copyright hunters.
My :2cents: ...
