Definitely having that one gifted to me for Christmas. Also, Alan Moore's Jerusalem.
Right now, reading The Mixer by Michael Cox, a tactical history of the Premier League, Pratchett's Jingo, and reading/playing Lone Wolf book 6.

Last week I finished the Silmarillion so I thought I'd start reading The Hobbit again and then continue back through The Lord of the Rings. I had thought of watching the extended version of The Hobbit as I read the book but that would mean watching a long movie every three days . Besides, I don't own it not do we have a working BD player connected to the TV. I could rip disks and play via media player though.

Last week I finished the Silmarillion so I thought I'd start reading The Hobbit again and then continue back through The Lord of the Rings. I had thought of watching the extended version of The Hobbit as I read the book but that would mean watching a long movie every three days . Besides, I don't own it not do we have a working BD player connected to the TV. I could rip disks and play via media player though.

Do you think they would? They've already used a little from it. I think that Beren and Luthien stands the best chance of becoming something.

Well, all three are Fantasy stories, so they got that in common...
All joking aside, I always read several things alternatingly. Reasons are manifold, like I don't wanna finish the Pratchett cycle every year, I don't wanna read football books for a few weeks and then get to another theme, and so on. Daily mood also plays a major role. Also, a lot of comics in between.

Does anyone think that's in any way conveyable through a movie? Even three? I think it's like making Dianetics - The Movie.

Ah... yeah, it was a little dry at times. I wouldn't say that I'm a hardened reader but get 50 mins of reading in a day on the work commute so I've knocked over a few books / series over the years. I'm happy that I've read it but it'll probably be a once only. I am however interested to see what's mentioned in the LotR and whether that means anything to me. I've only read it once before and that was probably five years ago.

I see, I figured there were reasons. I have a few things on at the same time but I basically only read on the train. Obviously Tolkien's being read but I'm also slowly reading one Cadfael omnibus per year, i.e. one story every four months (I thoroughly enjoy them so didn't want to burn through them), I have some Star Wars and Dumas' Musketeers books waiting in the wings, I'm yet to finish the third Dunk and Egg short story and I too am reading Pratchett. I was able to read several back to back for a while but then they started to lose me so I'm now knocking over one every so often. I've also had a bit of a history spurt late last year (Bernard Cornwell's Waterloo, William Marshal - The Greatest Knight x 2 - one was historical fiction and the second was an historical account - and a pile of old digital photography magazines that a friend sent my way.

Does anyone think that's in any way conveyable through a movie? Even three? I think it's like making Dianetics - The Movie.

I couldn't see it. After reading The Hobbit and seeing it exploded into three movies (two would have been enough), there would be too much in there to cover even the main events as there's a bit going on and a lot of it is interwoven. It would be like Martin's ASoIaF - it would need a few seasons of a TV show, maybe one age per season?

More things that need a TV show:
X-Men; three different series, including a solo character anthology origins series, on Netflix; 13 episodes a season.
Masters of the Universe; a cartoon, 13 episodes a season; NOT a movie; I cringe at what they've been saying about that movie over the last few years.
Lord of the Rings; a cartoon; one episode per book chapter, true to the book; admit it, we need this!
