HeroQuest - Audio Books

Postby DarakuTenshi » July 13th, 2017, 10:36 am

After reading my first HeroQuest book and realizing how well the book is actually written I had the thought of it being assembled as an audio book. Now I know it wouldn't be technically legal to do it, but I thought it would be neat to get a bunch of people from the forums to do the different voices and a narrator to read the lines. I thought of it more of a dramatization of the novels. Adding sound effects in to go with the scenes.

Do you think there would be any interest int this?

Where do I sign up? As far as legal goes... I think if it was sold for profit, yeah, might be some issues. But if Hasbro hasn't raided the yeoldeinn forums yet, they probably don't care. Or in my opinion, maybe Milton Bradley's HQ IP rights didn't transfer after Hasbro acquired MB.

No, I was thinking just as something to put on youtube as audio.

I've done quite a bit of video editing and I could use the same program I use for editing video to do audio. The only issue would be quality in recording the voice actors.

I think if you would have guidelines or requirements that has to be met for each voice actor, that could maybe improve the quality of each person's lines. Maybe make the same recording software available to everyone involved, make sure everyone has the setting & options the same each time etc. I think the obvious issue about quality would be the type of mic everyone would use, I have a couple of different models laying around, but what I think may sound like a solid recording, might not sound good to you. It's a daunting task to do but I don't know why everyone isn't in this thread ready to go. I think this would be so freaking cool to do.

Yeah, the software is not so much an issue, but the mic sure is. I've got several and all of them vary in quality of sound by leaps and bounds.

I don't know how trusting you are personally, but if you could spare a mic, maybe you could send it to the first voice actor then when they are done with all of their dialog, they can send it back to you and you can send it to the next person. I think most of us in here are pretty honest, the only person I've seen not honest is the *Play-Doh factory* that kept my Christmas miniature and didn't send one to anyone else.

But seriously, I would love to do this.

I was just thinking, you'd probably be better off using European actors cause it might sound less convincing story wise if you have American and European voices. Besides, someone us here in the state, myself included, have that Southern accent that a lot of people can't understand. Heck, I've even talked to people from New York and they asked me to repeat myself several times cause my accent is so thick.
