Darn that high Canadian money. The last one I seen on eBay sealed was in 2015, sold for $240.

I personally wouldn't want to pay a high price for a sealed one. I would just end up opening it anyways to use.

Me either. Last time I touched a sealed one was Christmas of 90. If only we knew then how much our toys would be worth today, G.I. Joe, Star Wars, Transformers, HeroQuest, Nintendo... I would have begged my parents to buy two of everything I had.

It's a game. It's meant to be opened.
I've never liked or even understood the collector's market for mint stuff.

That's exactly how I feel about Nintendo NES games. Those videos of guys losing their minds, spending thousands of dollars, driving 8 states away, fist fighting etc. to get a game, a manual and a box for their collection of 700+ games. I'm not jealous or anything, more power to those guys, but if its in a box, not being played, what is the point?

What is the point of any collection? Forget the fact that some of these collections can be "used". Some people "just" like to collect stuff.
If it's literally a "collection", then it makes sense to want the shrink wrapped version.
If you can have a mint condition trading card or a scruffy scratched one, which one would you rather have?
If you buy a video/board game just to be a part of a collection obviously you'd want the shrink wrapped one which offers better protection.

Like I said: Forget they are games that can be played. There's lots of reasons to collect stuff.
Maybe you played the games as a kid and as an adult you can finally buy all the games you want? Pue nostalgia.
Sometimes it's the hunt itself. Looking at eBay, flea markets etc. COLLECTING is the fun part. That it just happens to be video games? Roll of the dice.
Think about it... Lots of people have weird collections that serve no purpose. Napkins, figurines, trading cards, bottle caps, freaking rocks.
Why did those people start collecting those things? For whatever reason, insert video games instead and just get over the fact they can also serve as a playable game.

I have a collectard mentality. The only difference is I like to enjoy my collections through using whatever item it is. My Neo-Geo, TurboGrafx, N64... whatever I play them all. I had shrinkwrapped games that I got at a low cost, I opened them. So yeah... I'm very tempted to buy this HQ game (though I can't justify the cost). I'd love to rip that thing open.

Me too. I got my hands on Uncanny X-Men #94, Near Mint and worth 800 bucks back in the day, and read it with my greasy fingers.
Sold it as Very Fine and am still happy that I can say I had an almost complete X-Men comic book collection (1975 through 2008) at one point (sans Giant-Size X-Men #1).
