Expanding Heroquest Monsters

Postby Wolf » July 28th, 2016, 7:48 pm

Hey everybody, after recently buying Heroquest (And always loving miniature games and board games (I played Warhammer 40k and a bit of Fantasy when I was in Highschool)) I have decided to expand it to make more quests and more monsters to fight. Some of the monsters obviously come from the expansions with the rules taken from the expansions as well but I liked the idea of making my own expansion and my own Quest book so below is a list of the monsters I have (or will have once they come in the mail). I will post pictures when I can. So without further-a-do here is the list of monsters in my expansion:

  • Gargoyle
  • Chaos Warriors
  • Chaos Warlock
  • Orcs
  • Goblins
  • Fimir
  • Skeletons
  • Zombies
  • Mummies
  • Troll
  • Half Orc Thief
  • Skidders
  • Poison Skidders
  • Vampire Knights
  • Vampire Lords
  • Chaos Cultists
  • Ogre Warriors
  • Chaos
  • Bone Golems
  • Chaos Space Marines
  • Giant Wolves
  • Mother Rathtar
  • Ogre Champions
  • Ogre Chieftains
  • Ogre Lords
  • Ogre Magnus'
  • Shadows
  • Undead Berzerkers
  • Werewolves

I tweaked the stats of the werewolves (as they simply have the Giant Wolf stats) and took some of the rules from the other expansions with tweaking those as well to fit my expansion idea better.

A side note: "Chaos" will be the end monster to fight in the Campaign I make next.

I will be printing out the cards for them as soon as I can.

Aside from the Monsters I have a few more Heroes

  • Fool (Tweaked the idea from someone else on here)
  • Knight
  • Monk
  • Thief
  • The Doctor
  • Kyle Reese
  • Alexander Hartdegen
  • Ashley/Ash Williams

I create my heroes in 4's as the original set came in 4's: Barbarian, Elf, Wizard, Dwarf

So my next two groups are what I call "The Expanded Heroes": Fool, Knight, Monk, Thief

And "The Time Travelers": The Doctor, Kyle Reese, Alexander Hartdegen, Ash Williams

Obviously I will be sharing more for the monsters here but will open up a new topic (seeing as how I am forced to do that) for the Heroes.

I find it odd you don't just have a place for making a whole expansions: The cards, Heroes, Monsters, Tiles, spells, etc but all combined. To show off what I am doing you have to go to a bunch of different threads.

Anyway I will upload images when I can.

It looks exciting.

I think it's fine to post your entire quest pack in the quest pack room. That's where I throw all the parts of my quest packs.

Thanks I'll probably show off everything I've gotten on here and then go on there and just post everything, Heroes and such.

Will you be adding variants of specific types? Orcs with bows, Goblins with spears etc.

I recommend the "one of" monsters like the Cairn Wraith(GW), Wight King(GW), Banshee(any), mimic (reaper), oxidation beast (reaper), gelatinous cube (reaper), demon (any), etc.

I have different variants to a point. I am not really making new models for them (at least not right now as I have sunken pretty much all the money at the moment into this) but I have rules for adding weapons to them.

Ex: Giving them spears lets them attack diagonally at their full strength.
Shields give them an additional dice for defense
etc.

What do you mean a "one of" monster? As in only 1 on the field at a time? Cause at the moment those would be: Mother Rathtar, Gargoyle, Troll, and Chaos.

As for demons I have a special thing in mind for them when I expand more. I'll post up the stats for the creatures later today to show how the monsters work.

I say "one of" as in "one of a kind" the what does one-off refer to... I will ask google.

Edit* indeed it originates in the context of manufacturing... so one-off makes sense.

As for One-Offs the only ones that will be One Off is Chaos, Half-Orc Thief (Although I may get more Half-Orcs), and the Troll.

The following are the stats for the Monsters in the order of: Movement, Attack, Defense, Body Points, Mind Points.

  • Gargoyle
  • Chaos Warriors
  • Chaos Warlock 8 4/2 3 3 4
  • Orcs
  • Goblins
  • Fimir
  • Skeletons
  • Zombies
  • Mummies
  • Troll 8 4 4 3 3
  • Half Orc Thief 15 3 5 4 3
  • Skidders 15 2 4 4 4
  • Poison Skidders 15 4/3 3 4 4
  • Vampire Knights 10 3 4 3 4
  • Vampire Lords 10 3 3 2 3
  • Chaos Cultists 8 3 1 1 1
  • Ogre Warriors 6 5 5 3 1
  • Chaos N/A 10 10 15 20
  • Bone Golems 5 2 3 2 5
  • Chaos Space Marines 6 5 5 5 6
  • Giant Wolves 9 6 3 5 1
  • Mother Rathtar 7 6 5 8 2
  • Ogre Champions 6 5 5 4 1
  • Ogre Chieftains 4 6 6 4 2
  • Ogre Lords 4 6 6 5 5
  • Ogre Magnus' 6 5 5 4 6
  • Shadows N/A 3 1 1 1
  • Undead Berzerkers 6 4 5 5 2
  • Werewolves 10 6 4 5 3

N/A means that the monster can move anywhere on the board. The Shadows may not attack on Zargon's turn instead moving in the same room/area as you and only attacking once the character moves. Chaos on the other hand may move at will (once per Zargon turn) and attack you out of nowhere). He will be the boss for the campaign I am making.

I am thinking of adding 2 more Monsters as Demons: Possessed Chaos Space Marines, and Slithers (Slugs that take over peoples bodies like from Slither with Nathan Fillion [WOOOOO NATHAN]).

Obviously the ones not shown above are the normal stats for the monsters.
