They look a lot like big hairy men.

You're on the right path there.
You can already become more daring in your highlighting and shading if you want to, and also use smaller and more steps for it to achieve a smoother optical illusion blend.
It's actually easier to start from the midtone, highlight up, shade down, because the end result will be closer to what you wanted. But that's really yours to find out.
I like where you're going and these look like perfectly fine playing pieces.
I can also see that you can take it further if you want to, skillwise.
Will you saw the bases off and replace them? Because these do look like *lemony goodness* and have no purpose for playing pieces. Remeber you have to use super glue with Bones minis, so it makes sense to pin them if you choose that path.

knightkrawler wrote:Could work. Glue them on regular round bases and fill it up that way, covering the brokkoli.
But before you do anything with that, make up your mind and think hard about which style of bases you want for all your HQ minis cohesively.
Trust me on this, the base style is visually more important to connect everything than the quality of paintjob, the mini manufacturers or even differences in scale.
25 mm round bases, Games Workshop style, are pretty freakin' cheap these days.
