My real concern is that so far the approach of this campaign, whatever the rationale, has been a little delusional in terms of what the creators consider valuable to gamers. We are 2/3rds of the way in now and struggling for a mediocre $500,000 SG. "Big Promises" may push us to that 500K mark, but they still have not actually shown us anything. Considering I don't see this project going too much beyond that mark (I could be wrong, we'll see), my concern is that they don't have a real understanding of what folks are looking for. They say they do after reading the comments from backers but have shown us NOTHING to establish the point... So we hobble towards 500K hoping that when we hit it there will be a big reveal, that will be attainable, and satisfying.

In my view, however jaded at this point, they should have revealed some of their plans right away so that folks would know what they are working towards. I'm just not very confidant that the creators are getting what the problem is with their campaign, and since they are already using terms like the final stretch, I am worried that they will dangle promises in hopes of pushing the numbers as high as possible.

In short, nothing IDW Games has said convinces me of anything except that they may be worried that folks could pull their support. I hope I am wrong and we get to see some really nice SGs that make up for the lack-luster offerings so far, but nothing they have done or said to date has me convinced by any means.

And I'm a pretty positive and optimistic guy; so...?

The update I quoted is extraordinary in a KS like this. Not often are you gonna make a business admit they fraggled up. That is huge.
If they'll actually come through and deliver some great value is yet to be seen...

But I agree, up till now they seem to be rather clueless. Kevin Eastman ally card and studio campaign are insane stretchgoals to throw in that early. Why throw in TMNT characters when we can have KE?
Look at the campaign page and it looks like it had just started yesterday. These boxes doesn't look lke they are filled with bonus stuff. They look like the bare minimum basic box.
This KS is a real thriller. I'll pay close attention till the end. I still got my hopes up, but they gotta deliver real soon.

Also why the hell are people demanding Bebob & Rocksteady in human form? That is beyond me.
We barely have any minis as it is, and people want to waste two slots on uninteresting pre-mutant characters?
Should we also have normal rat- and turtles for the heroes? Derp...

Maybe someone here can shed some light on my confusion about their KS. The "unlocks" will be available at some point via retailers or are they only KS exclusive items? Is the basic game going to have the plastic miniatures in the box from the retailers or are they only for the KS?

Everything will eventually be available in retail, but the specific sculpts are KS exclusive.
They are not locking anybody out of gameplay content, but the collectors will want to get these once in a lifetime sculpts.
Also no word on "when"the exclusive stuff will be released in retail. A year? 5? Never?

So, you're saying if I am a HUGE TMNT fan, I need to pledge and if I'm not, I can just wait till the retail stuff is out right? Cause I like TMNT, but I can't see pledging almost 300 bucks for a few miniatures or signed boxes or whatever it is they are offering. But the game itself looks awesome. Can't wait for it to come out.

basically, except it's only $150.
There are two different pledges. $90 for the basic box.
Or $150 for the upgraded deluxe box which is the same basic box, but with splinter, mousers and alternative turtles sculpts added.

Of course, you can buy it all at retail. But the Hero Packs and Villain packs come in at $18 rrp a pop, and there are three in the base set, and a fourth in "the Works".

If you actually want the game, the base kickstarter is likley your best bet, it's gotten to be reasonable for game content at this point.

The works seems pricey for game content, the Lothographs are fine IF your a big Turtles fan, but are not that good for the rest of us.

Yup, the campaign has certainly been improving since the Devs posted their intention to add more substance... Too little too late? Not sure yet but it is a better deal now than it was.

What's everyone's thoughts here near the end?

I'm really on the fence...

+ The Eastman sculpts are really awesome.
+ Game itself looks fun enough.
+ The amount and variation of basic ninjas and thugs are very satisfactory. You can't just fight the bosses after all.

- the current dice design literally looks like crap. Art subject to approval, but who knows what we'll end up with?
- Tiles look really bland
- Not enough characters. It feels like a satisfactory basic box. But is it a box I want to preorder not having seen sculpts, final art or read reviews?
- Subjective, but I don't really like the shredder sculpt. His helmet is wrong and that sash just looks out of place.
- too many "alternative models". Turtles, B&R, Shredder. What a waste of sculpts. I would have preferred new characters instead. Baxter? Fugitoid?

That last point... Human Bebob & Rocksteady? Why were people "demanding" that again? That's the kinda thing you do when you start to run out of ideas.
They are as warranted as these Olympic turtles:
