Homebrew Heroquest

Postby Spacemunkie » May 21st, 2015, 12:53 am

Hi all

I've been working on this off and on for a while now. I'm slack so progress is slow :D

I decided to make my own board and went magnetic with larger tiles to allow for 25mm slotta bases and a bit more breathing space than the original had. Rolls of sticky-back fridge magnet are dirt cheap, so pretty inexpensive. A bit of Photoshop/Illustrator and some cutting/spraymount later...

I added a 'background' board that is a few squares larger than the original HQ board to allow monsters around the edges and through the middle. Also some corridor sections for AHQ or WHQ...

Image

So far so good. Then I realised I had no doors. These were my prototypes:

And here are the ones I created for a single part mould:

First castings in polyurethane painted up:

Still not finished, but had to stick some figures on it :)

And just to prove it's magnetic :D

2nd that! Although I do miss the "walls" in your design.

What do you stick it to on the table? Or is the magnet material so heavy that this is not a practical problem?

Are the figures magnetic as well? Or did you just add metal to the bases? Magnets sticking to magnets can give undesirable placement results.

Fantastic result Space, these look really great! Love the Fridge-quest "proofing" shots, so did my five year old...*Chuckle*...

Nicely done.

Are the doors just two castings stuck back to back? I'd really like some cheap doors and hadn't even considered casting my own.

Looks great! I love the Heroes and the doors. Where did you get the Heroes? Also, any chance you'd be willing to sell molds for those doors?

I would also like to know more about the door casting. Doors are what I am having the most trouble with for my homebrew edition.

Your stuff looks fantastic! Great work and beautifully painted minis!
