I want metal coins where a coin of say, "5 copper" weighs the same as five coins of "1 copper", etc.

The only way to do this with their kit is to have different metals be different denominations.

Heh, this totally got my creative brain distracted from the current topic... But you got me thinking about how to do that, and then it hit me. "Pieces of Eight"... Although less practical in metal for gaming, one actually could probably design some interesting plastic coins that could be snapped into each other some how to create a gamers take on the old break apart coin. But, I doubt it would work well in metal since the originals were designed to permanently separate, while for gaming you'd want to be able to rejoin them after play.

So, totally impractical, but I thought I'd share the detour my brain took... *Chuckle*...

The original Spanish dollars had no special design to be broken apart, they were just cut into pieces.
If you want to simulate this, I would recommend to make a mould and cast your own coins in pewter (representing silver). This is soft enough to cut apart (using pincers) without much effort during a game seccion, and cheap enough so you don't have to worry about rejoining the coins.

I made a piece of eight once.
Have a look ;)

Interesting. I admit that I had a picture in my mind of a coin designed to be break-away, because it was done so much. (.25 cents was worth a bit more in the 1600s')... Every pun intended.

Regardless, if one cast enough of the pewter coins, you'd ultimately end up with enough partials that you would not need to keep breaking more apart, so you have a good point there.

Okay, I have hi-jacked this thread enough, I now return the topic to it's originally intended purpose; discussing existing Kickstarter gaming accessories.

With this in mind, a now older project for custom minis... Hero Forge. I have never used the service, but the options for designing unique miniatures are extensive. At $25 bucks a pop, not something you'd want to build an army with, but certainly for PCs, notable NPCs, and so on it could be cool. Anyone ever use it? (There may even be a discussion elsewhere on these forums that I have not seen).

At the time of the kickstarter, members were discussing it in this thread: Kickstarter for customizable minis
