To be fair, I basically walk around with a concealed weapon. I used to debate competitively (and for money). I also used to moderate. I also played Quiz Bowl for money. My girlfriend at the time went to a local college that needed capable bodies. I made a lot of money.

Maybe you should get back into that to make money to pay kk back!

I'm not trying to pick on Maike05 or prolong the argument but this is something that I can't help but agree with. My stance on many things that aren't particularly important is that change for changes sake is no change at all. It usually ends up being pointless and introducing other issues. That's why governments become bureaucratic behemoths.

The way I see it, this site, while a touch dated, is fine. It suits the needs of the core users and there's some really good stuff here. Like others my link is to the forum because that's where the community is - it's the people. That's not to say that the resources on the site are forgotten about because they are not. They're probably just not accessed much apart from new users broadening their horizons or used for reference and I dare say that almost all users are rather thankful for the effort that has gone into them, in my case (like many others) it was the only way for me to make the expansions that I missed and refuse to sell a kidney for.

As for the techy / platform stuff / backroom stuff, unless there's a benefit from the maintenance side of things or reduces drathe's workload, I don't see much of a point.

Anyway, I don't feel this site is a site that competes with others and keeping up with the Jone's isn't an issue so if there was more effort to be spent, I just don't see much of a point in spending it somewhere that for all intents and purposes, it doesn't really matter.

As for new stuff, I'm not sure. I probably wouldn't be able to contribute so I find it hard to expect others to do something just because I'd like something. It is nice to see something new and fresh but for me, HQ isn't a huge thing in my life, it's just something I enjoy playing and sharing with others. Maybe try creating a community world as an alternative to the HQ setting. On the Classic Castle they started a Lands of Classic Castle (since moved to Merlin's Beard and renamed to Lands of Rowia) where people picked a faction and scored points for their builds and contributions to a storyline. Not sure that I'd suggest creating a scoring system but maybe coming up with a map, factions using HQ (and other?) races / monsters, create a history / mythology, basic storyline and let events and quests flow from that?

Like many of us, I like the familiarity of the Inn. That comfort zone leaves me happy with the way things are. However, the workload on drathe is great, and editing and posting Quests at a rate equal to submissions just can't be met. That is as good as reason as any to move the Quests portion of the site to something that can handle multiple editors.

I do have some reservations about opening a public archive of Quests, however. I could see some submissions containing offensive or copyrighted works that might cause problems. There would need to be some kind of oversight to protect against these instances, in my opinion.

Also, is it possible for one editor to change another's Quests without permission of the original author? I'm asking this out of ignorance of how community editing works. I'd expect there'd be some way to prevent that, or at least allow it seperately so as to avoid confusion. More info posted about how this works would be helpful to bring grognards like me up to speed.

If we stay with the Inn's current format, I guess we'd need a (small?) cadre of editors to work up Quests for permanant housing here. I'm not sure how that would work out from the administrator level, or if anyone would be interested on spending time on others' work. Sounds like another icon award will be in order, no matter what develops.

Back to topic - Things I would like to see at the inn:

A function to search the forum by date. Sometimes there are quite many new posts and I have not so much time to read everything I would be interested in, let alone answer. When I look the next time those posts are not longer "new", there are only one or two new posts in topics I'm not interested in. I would like to read the posts I missed the last time, but there is no easy way to serach for posts from, say, the last two days.

A function that allows me to show a whole thread on a single page (to print it).
Have a look ;)
