Funny word. Omnibus literally means 'containing everything'. So how can there be a plural for several different things with different contents, all of them titled so that you think you have everything? George Carlin would be all over this if he was still alive.

However, the loanword in English merely means 'collection'. Very unspecific, but still, being derived from the Latin Plural Dative for 'omnis' ('all, every'') this term cannot have a plural form. The correct plural would be 'omnibus volumes'.

Just having fun with language here.

Unless I know the storyline, I rarely buy anything without sneak reading first. Even one of the futurama
graphical novels I have isn't all that great - I had to buy it online (ugh).

DON'T PANIC
I am currently re-reading the hitchhiker's guide. It is, in fact, "The More Than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide" complete & unabridged, with the introduction: "A Guide to the Guide" by the author, Douglas Adams.

* edit * This simply means that, that is to say, to wit, all five hitchhiker's guidebooks plus an introduction (by the author, mind you) are included in their entirety, somewhat cohesively, and bound into a single universal book, or, as some would say, the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide. |_P

You know that when you multiply the 'o' in the word 'boring' in written language you make it read like a long-drawn 'booring', the -oo- resembling the vowel sound in 'hoof', but slightly longer, though not as long as that in 'loot'. IPA [bu:ring].
G-K, pray tell, what's a 'booring'? I seem to have lost my grasp on language.

In general, I don't read. I do have a set of three books by some guy that I can't remember the name of :P Fantasy. I've read the first one and really liked it. We'll see when I get around finishing the other two... Starting is the hardest part :bites-lip:

I'm currently rereading Joe Abercrombie's The First Law trilogy. I'm halfway through the third book in the series
War is not the answer...unless the question is, 'What is not the answer?'

Check out Broadsword, a love letter to 90s dungeon crawling board games.

Christopher Paolini was the guy.

Re: What are you reading at the moment?

Postby Redav » December 15th, 2014, 12:15 am

I've just finished Bernard Cornwell's Stonehenge. It took me under three weeks to read and I'm happy that I've read it but I probably won't read it again. I don't have a huge interest in that period of history even though it's a fascinating monument so that probably didn't help. That said it's just a background for a story which I found a little contrived. Anyway, it does mean that I'm back into the Saxon Stories with The Pagan Lord. Once I finish it I'll have about six months until the next book is available in the print that I want (books have to match right? :geek:) After that I think I'll be torn between reading his Warlord Chronicles, The Grail Quest or starting Harry Potter (hope the wife doesn't mind me reading first something I bought for her before she gets to read it )

Still struggling with getting through Pratchett's books though. Think I'm missing a few that I'd probably enjoy :(
