Really we cant get in their heads and know their motives for fighting so hard for the HQ re-release. Is it love of the hobby? Or over half a million euros pledges that they got?
Having read some background on the shady guy who runs GZ (i think CP snooped it up) id now fall into "the guy is a leech using an illegal remake of HQ to line his pockets with no care for the style or direction of the new game" camp. Even though i have bought from GZ before and liked them as a company well enough before.

If GZ had a care for HQ, they would have dropped in the Inn, or Old Scratch's - the thriving HQ communities who have been making additional content for the game for years? Before launching a KS and making creative decisions to change the game to face a new direction.

Thats a great BB pitch! Love the score banner - genius! Now you need to do a 3d heroquest board ;)

I raged for a bit - now I just don't care.
In my eyes this isn't official HeroQuest any more than what we do in here.
The difference is we aren't charging anything for all our amazing content.

Well, except those who sell minis, but you get what I mean ;)

The expression "Primordial Chaos" was most likely chosen to avoid "Chaos [this or that]" because Games Workshop sues seven shades of *lemony goodness* out of everyone that uses the word chaos in a fantasy/magic/generic world background property.
That simple.

Some people in this world have ethics. I don't have many morals, because I like doing naughty stuff. But, I do have ethics. Gamezone is literally a charlatan of an organization. Would you go into a store and steal a copy of Heroquest off of the shelf? Or, would you pay someone else to do that for you? Because that's exactly what this is. And also, because of this, Hasbro will probably never either remake or re-release actual Heroquest.

Thantos & Wolfie907, thanks for the compliments on the pitch! I worked way too long on that - it began as a simple field and It kid of feature-creeped until it became what it is.
A 3D HeroQuest board is on the shortlist for upcoming projects for sure, and my renewed interest for the game in the last few days has bumped it up quite a bit! I'll be sure to share the progress once I get motivated! I plan on having it fold up like the pitch does, with drawers/compartments to hold (hopefully) and entire set of tiles, miniatures, cards and books for the Quester on the go!

Also, if anyone has the link to what CP (I assume Chaotic Prime?) dug up about the GameZone guy, I would love to see it. And since text doesn't always convey emotion properly, I will note that I mean this sincerely, not antagonistically or facetiously; I'm genuinely interested as I personally haven never dealt with GameZone. Some friends of mine in the UK have enjoyed their products, but I would love to know more about the company. My impressions of Gamezone are admittedly one-sided but only because that's the only side I'm privy to.

And man those sculpts are so nice! I followed his blog immediately, so we've only got 16 more to go before we get a Barbie ;)

The Hemogoblin wrote:This is a fair point; unless the rules are only somewhat revised and not in entirety, then you're absolutely correct in that it's not the same difference. I hadn't considered the line between a revision and a full-blown ' new edition' release. It is my hope that they offer us two sets of rules: Basic and Advanced, the latter being the 'new edition' while the former remaining within the capacity of the classic ruleset.

That's right--I had forgotten that the Spanish game will have basic and advanced rules sections. No doubt the basic rules will be intended to more closely resemble MB Hero Quest.

JasonMCM wrote:I would not mess up the board by making the center room some funky non rectangular thing

When I first read this, I was like "Whaa? That's not right..." Then I checked. How the hell did I not notice that?! That really irks me. Like, this is the first time I've been actually, truly disappointed in something about the campaign. I'm an optimist and often give the benefit of the doubt, but this is simply unnecessary.

Gamezone has been producing GW facsimilies for years, just different enough to escape legal challenge. I think they altered the central room for the same copyright reasons. If the board too closely resembles the original, it's easier for Hasbro to make a legal case against the project.

The Hemogoblin wrote:
JasonMCM wrote:I would keep the PG feel of the original. No sex, no gore, no accidental dismemberment rules, and I would keep the artwork similar

Could not agree more. Just because they're introducing female models does not mean they have to be slathered in sex appeal. If it were a Succubus whose very identity is lust and temptation, then sure, I can get behind that but otherwise, fan service annoys me to no end.

I also agree. It may be Spanish culture sees no conflict with a product that includes both a scantily clad, chained female and teenage Heroes for the kiddies. I guess daddies could alter a Quest featuring such a prisoner, or proxie the figure. This won't be necessary for my friends, of course.

JasonMCM wrote:I would not try to one up the original game with pointless miniatures, this includes multiple poses for each monster type

Finally something we can disagree on! ;) I am all for dynamic miniatures with varying weapons and appearances. First, it makes the game look more alive on the table, and second it makes the game more immersive when you can label particular models as powered up versions, henchmen, etc.

I don't recall, but I hope there are monster cards or chits featuring individual pictures of multiple Body Point monsters so that Body Point damage of multiple monsters of the same type can be easily tracked. Placing skull tiles under a figure is too inconvenient.

The Hemogoblin wrote:Also, holy crap those sculpts by Ampersand are AMAZING!! Thank you so much for sharing that! Those are exactly what I had in mind when thinking of updated designs while keeping the classic motif in consideration. What's their story? And do you have any links or other information regarding their work? I need MOAR....

Check out Ampersand's blog, starting with December 15th and going back. While you're at it, join his group to help bring the Barbarian sculpt into production. Currently, he's more than halfway to his 50-member goal.
