I love Reaper's Bones minis. The soft bendyness is a plus, as you can't break them. Especially when gaming with younger people (kids), no worries. Paint won't chip, swords won't break.
I have made some HQ base molds with instantmold by pressing one original HQ base into the instantmold several times with the bottom up, so the top of the base is also the top of the mold. Then I fill it around the edges with milliput (press it firmly around the edges) and then I press in the Bones base. Then I smear the excess milliput over the top of the Bones base, so the entire base is more or less covered. I let it harden for a day, and then pop out the base. Now my Bones mini has a HQ shaped base out of milliput, which makes the model a tad heavier, and so it won't topple over as quickly.
They're easy to reshape with hot water (dunk in with a seeve, let it get hot and softer, take it out, reshape if needed, dunk in ice cold water and let it harden again/cool off). Clean with a bit of dishwashing soap and a brush, then just slap on some acrylic paint. Don't thin the first layer with water, just basecoat directly. Then add more layers, thin as needed. No primer paints needed. Easy peasy.
I'm sure I've written some tutorials here somewhere. Also check the Ye olde Inn blog (signature link below)
