So according to board game geek, gw has responded in a email saying they have the rights to heroquest still, and are looking into this bootleg version.

I thought only hasbro had the rights to the game and gw had the rights to advanced heroquest?

I let them buy potions from the Alchemist.

A shocking act of mercy from Chaotic Prime! :o

Well this may answer a question many have been asking for a long time regarding where the actual rights lie.

Looking into this issue, it seems that GameZone might be full of Fimir dung. They insist they own the rights to the game, but when Moon Design Publications (who now owns the trademark "Heroquest", but which has nothing to do with our beloved game) asked GameZone to produce the proof... they didn't. At least according to Moon Design Productions.

I think GameZone is full of it and that they were foolish to think this would even work. A similar Kickstarter controversy occurred recently with regards to a Ghosts and Goblins video game sequel being made by a team who claimed they had permission from the original developers... who were later shown to NOT have said permission and had their Kickstarter shut down. I don't understand why it is people think they can try to make money off of an intellectual property they don't own. They can try, but they'll likely be shut down.

If they only make it through a crowdfunding campaign they can in theory run away with their money and deliver no product.

The Board: EVERYBODY KNOWS THE SOLUTION WOULD HAVE BEEN TO MAKE THE OUTER CORRIDOR OR AT LEAST PART OF IT TWO SPACES WIDE.
That is the single most advantageous concept the entirety of the German forum has ever come up with, and it's freakin' brilliant; it adds to flexibility, tactics, quest possibilities

I was recently discussing the possibility of using AHQ floor tiles with HQ style rules but none of us in the discussion like the two spaces wide corridors, so I was planning on trying it with the minis using the crosses on the floor for their positioning rather than the squares (does that make sense, I mean you place your mini on the intersections between the four squares!?)

You didn't lose them. I was referring to your POV concerning the GameZone project.

Re: How Adopted will 25th Anniversary Be

Oh, haha, I see.

I mean, IF they had actual permission from MB to do this (which in and of itself is EXTREMELY unlikely) they would have surely been advised that the "Heroquest" trademark is now owned elsewhere and would have had to make a name change. I just don't understand how they thought it could go smoothly? I applaud them for their dedication to trying to make it happen, but they should have realized that the only way a 25th anniversary would actually have happened would have been a miraculous re-partnering between MB and GW... and even then I suspect it would have been aborted (with the "HeroQuest" name) because Moon Design, who owns the trademark now, would have wanted a massive cut for licencing the trademark back to them. It is just never going to happen, at least under the "HeroQuest" name.

Really, what Game Zone SHOULD have done was approach it as a completely unofficial homage to the legacy of HeroQuest and created a very similar game, without infringing on the trademarks. But I don't know that anyone would have actually wanted THAT anyway. It was folly from begin to end.

This Kellar's Keep thread discusses that point, beginning with HeroQuestFrance's post.

Fullork345 wrote:So according to board game geek, gw has responded in a email saying they have the rights to heroquest still, and are looking into this bootleg version.

Link, please. I,ve poured through a lot of the threads there, but haven't yet discovered this point--no doubt I have yet to read the thread. I'd definitely like to know the details, as Games Workshop has previously made legal claims that were later proved in court to be partially or wholely false. Anything shedding light on the nature of the agreement between MB and GW would be good to know.
