Hello guys ! As much as I love our Inn website, I would like to migrate it to something more modern like google site. This way, we could easy set up new sections on the website and allow multiple people to update the website at the same time because google sites, likewise google docs is collaborative : this means several people can edit one same document at the same time!

I am willing and able to invest time in doing so with the authorization of drathe and other can also join much like our blog which is working very great ! Mainly thanks to Sjeng and I

Why would Google Sites be the most suitable tool for us ?
-one website owner = drathe, several contributors=myself,Sjend,etc
-No need of HTML or PHP knowledge ! There is an online editor very easy to use !
-The website uses so called module or blocks if you prefer. Much like a Lego game, you can easily set up several module together (text, image, video, lists, comment sections, etc)
-Possibility to set up a wiki !

The Japanese Quest Pack localization, Rise of the Chaos God by bastianbux, is arguably the most popular thread in the Quests and Questpacks subforum. I got 2nd-most veiws at 1,588 and most replies at 173.

I like the map idea for the icon (heroquest world map ) But how much effort earns the icon? A single sentence translated by google, or an entire multi-page quest book? There should be some threshold. Also, who is able to keep track of when someone earns one?

All your points are very valid and good reasons to do this. The Google sites idea has peaked some of my interest. Especially the freedom of allowing various contributors managing their own fan-made content. It would free up a lot of my "Inn to-do list" and people wouldn't have to forever wait for me to get around to organising their submissions and getting them online. It would also make translating the website a lot easier. I'll be the first to admit that I've been lacking time to update the website as I once did. I will also admit that this past year I really haven't been interested in doing a lot of updates. (sometimes it feels like a chore) I've also been thinking about the possibility of retiring from the Inn and handing the Website over to someone who has both the time and the interest to keep on top of things...

I have questions though:
How much storage space does Google provide for files? Our currently available content is approximately 10GBs alone and growing (at a slow pace due to my free time, otherwise we could have easily doubled that).
Is there a maximum file size? Some of our high-resolution quest books are up to 100MB.

I'm not 100% sold, but I must say I'm very intrigued with the idea as it would be several steps closer to the Inn being a true HeroQuest community Website. I also like the idea of having various people head sections of the Website. (which I've been thinking about for the Inn as it is now) Having one person in charge of each language section (Lords as I would call them) who can corroborate with others in their area for the purpose of translating Webpages, resources, fan content, etc.

For the fan-content (card, quests, rules, images, etc) I believe Google sites might be necessary regardless of a full Website remake. The easiest way for everyone to share their stuff on the Website is having the ability to upload it themselves and write their own descriptions, upload their own images. We would probably have a lot more content online if people didn't have to go through me to get it on the homepage. Using Google sites as a branch for Ye Olde Inn's fan content would be very beneficial. It might even free up enough time for me to get back into the hobby as deep as I once was. Translating the Brazilian Quests, making more Quests of my own and creating HeroScribe map icons for all the tiles available at the Inn are just a few things I would really like to get back into, but I don't have time for them as other Inn duties need to come first. Basically, I like the idea of having fun again.

I would like to hear from other community members and gather their thoughts as well. Please speak out and let your thoughts be known.

Yes, the forum is wonderful, why change it ? this is the place where people gather and discuss. The website would be the place to keep all good stuff (quest, cards, etc).

Embedded documents, including Google Documents, don't count against the sites storage quota. However, items added as an attachment or to your file cabinet do count against your quota.

As I understand it, quota is what is downloaded from the website. If we store all images on imageshack, flickr, etc, it won't be counted against the site storage quota. Same as if we store large file on dropbox, mediafire, mega, upload.com, etc.

Although, I don't have any idea whether 100mb/site is sufficient (text only) ?

I've made a swf flash file, and I've upload it on a file hosting site. So I've got a link of this swf file and I want to post it. There is no swf tag, and it could be great if we can see the slideshow from the post.

If I'll post the link the only think people can do, is to download it on their pc and execute it from there, but it is not cool.
