Because otherwise they'd just be another set of fantasy miniatures, and there are already a bajillion* of those out there.

HeroQuest miniatures are unique, desirable, and in limited supply, especially the ones that are unique to the quest packs. Currently, your only options are to buy an original game system (currently going for over $100) and the quest packs (often over $300 each for the ones with exclusive figures) or buy the miniatures you want in separate auctions (anywhere from $10 to $60 depending on rarity and desirability).

Being able to buy plastic miniatures that are made specifically for HeroQuest, even if slightly altered, would be a boon to those who want to play the game but can't obtain the originals.

I think it is 1000 times as much as a jillion.

Well for one, the old mini's from the expansion packs cost a fortune. I would love to be able to buy the mini's from Elf and Barbarian pack.

I can see that.
A misunderstanding then. I thought we were talking about orcs and skeletons.
The EQP and BQP minis, however, I would get my hands on that way...
If they are really different. I am in no way inclined to have these expansions as they are for the minis now. They are horrible sculpts, and I mean it.
Even as a completist.

The original American expansion minis didn't fit HQ style, but were rather on par with DragonStrike quality and style. You can see GW having left the project, right there.
But variants of those, well designed, beautiful minis stylewise coherent with the earlier minis I want to have too, so I say yes to the plan.

International, of course.

I think this post sounds like I'm drunk... |_P

I totally agree that they didn't fit the HQ style, not even close. That's why I am not so inclined on having them. Even though I have easy access to two guys that make recasts (Patroclus and billdask).
But do not compare them to the DragonStrike ones. Those ones are terrible in style, its orcs are the worst I've ever seen and this comparison is not really fair to the incoherent, yet pretty detailed, American expansion ones.

I also would like to add that although I probably won't sign up for the kickstarter thing, I'd advise chaoticprime to make it internationally.

I think the BQP and EQP miniatures are awesome, but to each his own.

I also think some of the DragonStrike miniatures are okay, particularly the heroes. I use them in HQ sometimes. At least the bases match and they are made it out of the same type of plastic. Several of the figures are the right scale too.

I guess there's no accounting for taste ;)

I see that this post is going in many directions. I don't like buying a do yourself game, because everything is right here on the website, that's true. A bunch of specific miniatures made for heroquestwould be a lot more interesting to me. Altought, i would like new races! Speifically gnolls and skavens.

In addition, i would also be really interested in buying new expansionfor the game. Why not pursuit what has been stopped with the last expansions?

And finally, i would also be willing to pay for a new gaming board!

Round Up

We will make better-quality miniatures for use with HeroQuest. They will also have ranged-variants among them, for some monsters. We will not worry about a whole new game, rather just the miniatures. We will produce miniatures for all releases for HeroQuest, but with more emphasis on design continuity.

Does this sum up everyone's feelings?

Sounds like a good plan for getting some of my money :)

One question: plastic or metal?

Plastic!

A bit off topic, but I personally feel that The Frozen Horror is by far the most beautifully crafted expansion. The storyline, the theme, the artwork, the tiles and the miniatures are all awesome. That just needed to be said.
