Technically the first ranged weapons artifact is the Magical Throwing Dagger.

AH is giving away JOD themed dice at GenCon. No other details given yet on how to get them.

Like other completionists, I really want the JoD dice. I love the Dread Veil set.

To anyone: Please keep us posted if/when the JoD dice set is made available for non-exclusive-I-couldn’t-make-it-to-a-convention release. Thank you in advance.

I have been seeing different versions of packaging for these dice. The picture here looks like 3 dice in a plastic sealed bag, and pictures elsewhere that have 6 dice in a tin, just like the Dread Veil dice from before.

From the looks of it, these are different dices. Green and yellow ones.

The German quest book has similar errors to the English version....so bad :|

The special JoD dice in a tin are sparkly, so I'd say the swag Gen Con dice aren't the same. If I remember correctly, the tin will be offered for sale.

Correct, now that the convention is over, the ONLY way you are getting the tin of sparkly Jungles of Delthrak dice (which are transparent with splashes of green ink inside and sparkles with dark red symbols) is waiting about a month for them to go on sale as a retail set (with a new dice mat) for $30-35 on HasbroPulse (I don't recommend paying a scalper who will charge you hundreds, even thousands). The tin (sans mat, which nobody got to see) was something you got IF you bought Jungles of Delthrak AT the convention only (hence why I didn't get one).

The translucent yellow dice (they are mountain dew colored) with dark green symbols will be available only through those in-store demonstrations that are being done by various Wizards of the Coast affiliated gaming shops across the country for the next month. These were handed out free 1 to a customer per visit/per day at the Avalon Hill booth (I have many of them, but they are shipping to various fans who asked me ahead of time).

The yellow dice are nothing to scream about, and in fact, if they are of the same "quality" as the giveaway dice last GenCon, they are likely to have defects and crack (like mine did) under minimal use in less than a year (another good reason NOT to spend any amount of money on scalped versions just to "collect" them). I remember that those dice were described by Encarmine as being in the category with seconds, or rejects from the factory (a color test for the Frozen Horror dice, which are of higher durability) hence why they were free.

So my earlier understanding was wrong. I thought that the giveway dice and Jungles of Delthrak dice were the same (not true, as the images prove). I also misunderstood what dice were going to be the store demo giveaways (they are the yellow dice, NOT the JoD dice). And unlike the Dread Veil dice there were no pre-order giveaways (there were no pre-orders for any HQ products at GenCon, in fact). Every tin was matched with a copy of JoD and a huge pile of them were sold.

Here are some images shared by Ribby (thanks Ribby!) showing closeup detail on the JoD dice which appear dark green in a lot of pictures but here held up to the light:

(and RobChamp supplied images of the tin itself they come in):

Thanks again for the images guys! (the below picture from AngusMcBane, shared originally on HeroQuestFans discord):

Other swag given away at Avalon Hill booth included the Talisman dice (they are just ordinary D6's with the 6 taken up by the game symbol) which are black with gold pips, the reverse color scheme of the ones included in the 5th edition box, and also pads of the Adventure Design Kit for first light (symbols rescaled to be somewhat closer to proportional and with a map on the back for the new "caverns" board)... these pads were in shorter supply do to an oversight.

Now that dice cracking was mentioned, I remember my orange dice that came with PoT have little cracks them after using them during for about 20 quests. I don’t believe they had these cracks initially. None of them broke or anything, they just have visible internal cracks.

To compare, the blue dice from FH do not have these cracks. I use them heavily for Zargon’s rolls since I started playing using the companion app.

To me this is a case of directly contacting Hasbro Consumer Care and explaining the defective nature of the product. Dice should NOT be cracking on you... unless maybe you are playing unsanctioned crap games in an alley, and rolling them on concrete!

One of our friends at GenCon mentioned his PoT dice cracking too (I think it was Robchamp) and I encouraged him to do the same. I actually haven't been using my SQT/PoT dice at all, but I have used the FH dice and they never gave me any issues, while the giveaway GenCon 2023 dice developed cracks pretty quickly. I rolled them on a felt covered wooden cigar box, and while I have dropped them on the floor before, I have carpeting and so we're not talking about tossing them off a roof or stepping on them or something (and I haven't left them out in my car in extreme temperatures either).
