I was lucky enough to get my set early (I'm based in NZ), and I have an old UK version. Post any questions I'll do my best to answer!

Post over in the Unboxing thread, we have lots of questions there!

Yeah the great thing is you can still play this using whatever ruleset you want (might need to make some notes if the cards don't reflect it of course, or print new ones!). These are based on the North American (US) rules. It would be a much bigger jump from the EU to NA rules I would think. I have been watching the video and don't see anything really new yet (other than perhaps explicit mention of drinking multiple potions but I could be wrong that might have already been there, you'd think I'd remember that little detail!) other than name replacements for removing the Warhammer stuff.

Welcome and thanks for offering to help... |_P

These minis are bendy, right? So they're not going to "break" like the stiffer plastic of the classic HeroQuest.

Yeah they have a bit of bend, so should handle my kids knocking them off the table. There are some fine details though, so I don't feel like pushing the limits!

RPG trope #61387: Empires are always evil. Monarchies are always good.

Pancho wrote:I thought the whole point of making the board bigger was to prevent the overcrowding that we sometimes had in the old game? But the new figures and their round bases are so big that there is going to be overcrowding anyway.
I said months ago that very few of the new figures will be compatible, size-wise, with the older ones and that looks to be the case. But if you put your old guys (much better miniatures anyway) on the new board though, it will probably work brilliantly. I’m looking forward to seeing somebody do that, maybe with the dragon and gargoyles too.

Definitely expect to see some edition mixing for those who have both! I will be contributing to this where I may. This is where that being careful with how to approach it requires a little care.

Darkfox190 wrote:What do the round bases have to do with it? The bases are smaller than the squares. Square bases wouldn't do anything here, other than lock the figures into certain facings - The round bases allow you to rotate the miniatures freely to move protruding bits into better positions.

But the figures overall appear to be larger. Part of the problem with the original game was that the bases were actually physically larger than a square (appears resolved), the other part is that the figures overhang their bases by a good amount (which isn't), making the need to put figures up next to each other more difficult. This is a significant source of frustration with modern "dynamic" poses. The older simple ones did overhang their bases, but far less so than any modern figures do.

cornixt wrote:The board game Rising Sun came with those same style trays for the miniatures. They are pretty nasty plastic, but have held up well over the last few years. I don't really like them, but I haven't bothered coming up with an alternative that would protect my painted miniatures, so I still use them.

Fair bet we'll see aftermarket inserts. Looks like Hasbro's got a pretty good layout to them from the pictures. We just need them made out of something that isn't vacuformed styrene. (It will get brittle in time.)

I know people don't as much like the bendy plastics of Reaper Bones, but I think it's probably better for a board game than the more rigid plastics, especially if it makes the pieces more sturdy in the hands of kids. I do wish they'd gone for less fine details that MIGHT be breakable. One of the reasons the original minis are often in such good shape is that they were intentionally made kind of chunky in the details department.

The pages of the rulebook I've seen so far lead me to believe that practically nothing has changed since the NA release (other than name changes). But a little more couldn't hurt...

I've stepped on Reaper bones minis and they are fine after a little near boiling water, vs. metal minis that break into bits with the same treatment from what I hear tell. So unless these were scrapped together from old toothpaste tubes I'm betting they're pretty solid.

One of the first things I'm going to announce if/when we play this version is that due to the present crisis, the various Lords and chieftains and leaders of the various peoples from across the part of the earth not yet fallen to "dread" have met to unite under a new and more glorious banner... and have chosen our beloved King to be the first ruler of a new Empire, to address and confront the threat of Zargon and his evil forces. This Empire will stand as a beacon of hope against the wicked designs of the Witch Lord, and the evil Sorcerers who dare threaten the fragile peace and turn these many realms against each other.

The troops are assembling along the borderlands, with many brave knights (Battle Masters, 1992), meanwhile my brave Heroes, you will form our special forces who will embark on many great and dangerous quests to foil the malicious plans of my former student, along with his generals and allies.

Long live the Empire!

Just got my email. It is out of the building, but FedEx app hasn’t refreshed the status so I don’t know the new delivery date. Still says Nov. 6th.

So what you are saying is, to spite Games Workshop, HASBRO left the chaos in as the lack of communication to people for over a year, with some, like myself that have gotten no emails from FedEx or Hasbro since Oct 27th, and Pulse account still reads "Unfulfilled".

So with all the chaos about delivery dates not being available to people, people have been dreading what silly changes Hasbro might have made to the game, aside from that which was legally necessary.

(I'm not sorry.)

HasbroPulse has "updated"...
https://hasbropulse.com/blogs/avalon-hill/heroquest-haslab-mythic-tier-first-look-shipping-updates
Mythic Tier backers, it is officially time to get excited - our team has printed your shipping labels. Once FedEx ships your order you’ll receive an email with the tracking info for your order. From there you’ll be able to follow your order along until it arrives at your door, just in time to quest your way through the holidays!

Now for the less exciting news: Heroic Tier backers have a bit longer to wait. We’re sorry to announce that delays have affected the shipment of our Heroic Tier rewards and the timetable for their delivery has been extended. Currently those rewards are in a cargo container being shipped across the Pacific, which means they still have to reach port, get unloaded, and make it to our warehouse. Current estimates place the shipment of Heroic Tier rewards starting in December, but please note there is the possibility there could be future delays. Know that our team working hard to get the game to you as soon as we can.

I love how Made In China and other info is printed directly on Joe's "tavern" tile and not the giant empty space on the left with all the other smaller tiles... schmucks!
