It's not hard to figure that one out. It isn't even particularly about political parties or anything, if you think about it… In the 60s, a group of people who weren't in positions of power loved these things because they unseated their enemies. People at these protests in the 60s went to work in media, the public sector, non-profits, and even private industry. They now control the things that previously were the targets of these whistleblowers.

Both parties play these games. Look at recent history with Wikileaks objectively. Who'd they dish dirt on when Bush was in office? Bush and Republicans. When Obama was in office? Obama and Democrats. Trump and Republicans. Sensing a pattern? And yet Dems loved "heroes" Assange and Wikileaks when they were targeting Bush, while the GOP called them spies and terrorists. The accusations 100% flipped while Obama was the target. Then Trump took office and … Assange was in custody (so "a hero" to the GOP, and a spy/terrorist to Dems) while Wikileaks without him started dishing dirt on Trump. What's the one constant there?

People are shallow, especially in collective groups, and they have short memories. Some so-called "journalist" (really a partisan propagandist—YES, the ones on your "news" show too) tells you what a bought and paid for party strategist told them to say. You'll start to discover, if you being to realize that that the opposition on these programs are always weak and ineffectual. Of course they are—they're controlled, token "other side" representation. Straw men to be beaten and burned.

This isn't new. Great YouTube video: Attack ads circa 1800. Jefferson vs. Adams. Real things they and their agents said about each other.

Whew - that must be fun to try to admin. I'm involved in the writing community on twitter, and I can say without a doubt that people get nuts

"evil races", or even races at all, in fantasy writing and gaming. I've tried to put my two cents worth in here and there, but always get shouted
down to the point where the person/people are making no real sense, and so I remove myself from the conversation.

That you would say this shows you know very little about HQ, honestly.

No, what it means is i dont give a rats tochus about GW, Warhamer, and didn't give much about 40k lore either when i played it. they are wargames, and murder hobo dungeon looting games. that is it.

Like i previously said, i don't care orcs are fungus or whatever. see those green things with those weapons.. the red figures fight them for treasure. that is all that matters.

Absolutely nothing about GW or its lore had a single thing to do with HQ. show me what rule of the game requires knowing Issue 37 of White Dwarf page 12? Nothing , because it is a self contained game that has no "lore" other than Loretome.

I dont care about your fanfic, or HASBRO's fanfic. When I play HQ, there will be 4 heroes, going to fight evil forces to take the hidden treasures.

Try your ONETRUESCOTSMAN fallacy elsewhere.

You mean apart from the fact that the UK editions of HQ are plastered with "Developed with Games Workshop," and features notable GW art by GW artists the time, set in a world which was all part of GW's IP (and despite being thrown under a bus for Age of Sigmar, still is)?

Sorry, Shadzar, but GW is (was) an integral part of HQ, and that will always be historical fact. Whether you care about it or not, use the material or not, is up to you. This is a Rule 0 fallacy on your part - you are ignoring the references to GW's Old World in the game and then using this to assert that GW has nothing to do with HQ.

Mr Potatohead is another example of how the media like to make a fuss over nothing. It was presented in the news as if he was being neutered or ungendered in some way (he never had any reproductive organs at all) when all they really did was put him under the generic "Potatohead" banner of several different products along with Mrs Potatohead and other potatohead people/creatures. It actually said "Mr Potatohead" on the new box that they showed everywhere while they pointed only at the top part that only said Potatohead. You only have to take a few seconds to look at the evidence objectively to see what is really going on.

To be fair he did show some content. It wasn’t extensive, but there was some content to back up his claim. To be a Whistleblower you are not required to provide hours and hours of evidence to back up every aspect of your claim, which is often impractical. The fact that the claim is being made by an insider is one of the main things to take away, and the fact that he felt strongly enough to lose his job over it. Bit strange that you wouldn’t mention that bit and instead reach for your imaginations and feelings that you think the guy didn’t actually believe in what he was saying

The entire basis of his whistleblowing was on that evidence, and it was lacking. He didn't have a ton of anecdotal stories to add to it, or anything else for us to consider. The part that he was dumb enough to stake his job on something he didn't really think through is not important. You seem focused on why he felt the need rather than what he actually presented, I'm more of a facts guy than emotions guy. I just thought it was funny that even he didn't seem all that convinced by it.

HASBRO is a publicly traded company, not a private company. HeroQuest is also a publicly sold and advertised game, and is subject to bait and switch laws. If they try to give people Dungeons & Dragons: The Adventure Begins in a HeroQuest box... there is likely to be a lawsuit.

This forum really needs an ignore feature.

It's not, and it won't be. GW is gone now, no part of HASBRO remake which will be using NA rules, new art, new everything it seems except board art, deal with it.

It depends how you look at it, Shadzar. As a matter of historical fact, GW was involved in the making of HQ, and provided much of the lore of HQ. The US version simply copies the version of that lore, as far as the GS, KK, and RotWL are concerned, but expanded it with non-canon generic fantasy with the BQP and EQP. As for Hasbro - Hasbro hasn't released anything yet regarding the lore of NuHQ. Even when it does, if the game uses KK and RotWL, it will still have GW influences in the lore.

None of your ranting will change any of this, because it's the past. It's history. We might not know the full story, and probably never will, but we know that GW was involved in the making of HQ, and without GW there would likely not BE a HQ as we know it.

The evidence exists, because we have scans and archive evidence thanks to this very site, which has served the purpose of preserving HQ and it's history for over 30 years. Evidence that says HQ was developed with GW. Choosing to ignore that doesn't just make it go away.

It's part of the history of HQ, and therefore people will talk about it as part of that history. They will expand off that history. They will add in AHQ, and look at WHQ, and a range of other stuff from GW and the World That Was, because of that historical fact.

We don't change history - we just change the stories we tell about it. We pass on what's important, and one thing that is important to many about HQ is GW's involvement.

It doesn't matter to me whether or not you care about GW's involvement in HQ. You can use HQ however you want, and care about whatever parts of it you you want, it really doesn't matter.

Me being British is irrelevant here. Just as you being American is irrelevant. I've have many passionate discussions with Kurgan, many of which involve our differing experiences of HQ due to what side of The Pond we grew up on.

No amount of ranting is going to change the fact that the BQP and ELP were NOT designed with the Warhammer World in mind. By that time, the US edition had gone it's own way and done it's own thing, and that too is a piece of historical record.

The same goes for fact that MB retained the rights to HQ, and Hasbro bought out MB and acquired the rights to HQ. The same way Hasbro bought out Wizards, a few months after Wizards bought out TSR, and now Hasbro has the rights to D&D.

But, even then, as much as they try, they cannot change the past. Whatever Hasbro do with NuHQ, it's going to be a new version, a new edition, and it's going to end up being one extra branch of the HQ edition tree, much like when people play D&D, and the grognards amongst us go "what version?"

We shall see just what comes from Hasbro's NuHQ, but it will always be NuHQ to many, and aside from some shiny new components and another box to put on the shelf, chances are the fans will do what they always do - give the new version a go and decide if they like it better than what they are already using...

WAS is the keyword. For a museum and anyone that really cares.. good for them, they have 12 threads i have read here about that history, the past. it will not be going forward. GW is not making HQ, and has craked down on its IP again as it did in early 2000s so unlikely to see any GW in the new game, which as the first post indicates this thread used to be a part of that discussion.

HASBRO is solely making this one. We don't know if Wizards or HASBRO directly, but we can only discuss them here now, we can only discuss Avalon Hill in the other thread, even though the box clearly shows a HASBRO logo on it.
Image

Thems the rules, we cant talk about HASBRO in the other thread even though that big logo is on the box.

You know what logo is NOT on the box? Games Workshop.

You know who didn't even know Games Workshop existed other than a logo when HQ originally came out? Most people in NA.

Those tidbits of "lore" you speak of are easily replaceable, as i said when you take the original quest book and use the blank quest. There was no world map, you didnt need one. There was no Britain Empire.. you didnt need one. The amount of knowledge i know about Warhammer Fantasy includes what little bit from HQ i have found here, and that Skaven exist only there as they are not in 40k.

Nobody really cares about the GW connection as most people didn't make a GW quest after the initial and not everyone bought the expansions. You don't need the expansions to play the game ENDLESSLY. (what you do need often is replacement board as they wear out over time)

So you, or the CRT crowd trying to force people to play a specific way with such an open ended game, is pathetic. You have no rights at anyone else's gaming table, meaning you don't have any say in how they play. Use all the GW lore you want. Use Hobbit lore for all I care, its your game. i wont be playing in it, and you would never play in mine.

So realize your opinions are your own and right to them and how to play, but you have no right to dictate how others play, and what they include or not in their game... if/when it finally arrives.

Gaming doesnt need this kind of elitism. Gatekeeping was needed for many things, but NEVER to allow bigots to go around telling people they are playing a game wrong.

If that's all you care about - 4 little figures fighting other figures for treasure on a board, then why are you here :?: :?: :?:

I didn't comment here because of anyone's feelings about CRT, or Hasbro's agenda, or anything else like that. You're coming here to the Inn, basically trashing
Heroquest, and one really must ask - why do you bother? Go find yourself another, similar game - there are a bunch out there. Some of them don't have the
background or the story. They are exactly what you want: hunting down monsters and finding treasure, with no other extraneous things to get in the way.
Go play one of those, and leave the Inn. Take your witch's cauldron and big wooden spoon and stop stirring up trouble.

.... ... ...

Now, as for your complaint about Hasbro and this new release - I never thought it was going to work out well for them to begin with. Part of the reason
I did not back the kickstarter. Another part is that I've never understood why a giant company like Hasbro would need to run a kickstarter for a new game.
But those are my issues, no one else's.

As for your thoughts about Hasbro possibly boxing up a D&D style game as the new HQ - it is quite possible that they are going to do that.
WotC has been having troubles with their book line and with D&D lately. Their publishing of 4th ed bombed and I think they lost a lot of credibility
and fans. They might have run across HQ and thought they could snatch away those fans and bring them into D&D, possibly by merging the two into
a new HQ game, and then merge them more and more with new expansions.

But you know what - that's what happens when people back a kickstarter. You don't really know what you're going to get at the end, unless proper
models are put up for view right from the start. You don't know how long it will take in the end. You don't know if your money is really going to
be put to good use. You don't even know if you're going to get a product at the end. That's the chance you took...that a lot of people took.

Fact of the matter is, though, this forum had absolutely nothing to do with that kickstarter, nor with the issues Hasbro might be having with
releasing the new game. Hasbro did not consult fans about what the game should be. Hasbro could probably care less what any of us think.
You know who's problem that is? Yours, and everyone else who backed the new game.

Don't bring your whining here. There is a giant thread about the new game and everyone's thoughts on it. Take your complaints there and leave them
there for all to read. Anyone who cares will go check it out. Again - stop stirring up trouble elsewhere.

You either:
A: Have never played HeroQuest
B: Didn't read the first post in this thread
C: Are yet another elitist bigot that demands people play games EXACTLY like you do
D: All of the above

Neither you, Cornist, CynthiaLee, or even drathe can force me to play HQ the way they demand. None of you people are at my gaming table, nor would be invited to it or my home.

You want to fantasize about whatever GW things were in the UK version, there is threads for that. You re welcome to them, go there. I don't care. Other countries that did not get the UK content like NA did not, probably also don't care. the Majority of people that play the game are not there to play D&D or Warhammer Fantasy "the board game", no matter what Baker intended, and GW redesigned without him.

NOBODY has a right to anyone else's tangible personal property, which a HeroQuest game is, nor to tell them how they must play. (exception some convention or tournament where the rules are defined prior.)

That is the whole problem with CRT being used by HASBRO in game design, as well as the "woke" people mention being forced directly into the "crowdfunding" from HasLabs. People are sick and tired of you holy-than-thou people thinking you can DEMAND how people use their tangible personal property to appease to you nobodies that they would otherwise not interact with in the real world. HQ doesn't belong to this forum, or website, and it doesn't belong to GW or HASBRO either. The trademark and copyright may, but the actual game when in the hands of the customer is the right of THAT customer to decide how to use it.

It is time the gaming bigots that wants to play elitists and think they can control other people or their opinions/games to disappear. Once an individual customer has their personal tangible property, then not another single soul has any right to that property. If you think you do, then its possible you are planning larsony and should be investigated for it. ;) If you are NOT planning larsony, then shut up about other people's property that you have no rights to.
