I hadn't watched this particular videos yet... not much info I didn't already know but still...

Some guy talks about the preview pack he got

Pulse Con 2020 panel with Stephen Baker (the new one doesn't seem to have anything to do with HQ like this one did)

skipping ahead to the Stephen Baker part... (he narrates Prophecy Telor then speaks freely on the panel)

I actually think ALL the minis "look good" it's just that some of them to me feel like they don't "fit" with the others and appropriate for Hero Quest.

Examples: The male zombie with sword and shield looks boring. The (male) Mummy looks more cartoony and goofy. The Goblins and Warlock look like they belong in a different game with more cartoony/exaggerated/cute figures.

If it were up to me, I'd equip the male Zombis with the two handed cleavers/axes like they have on the box art. I'd make sure the Dwarf was to scale with the other Heroes, and I'd give the Gargoyle removable wings and a whip instead of a halberd/axe.

I like the old art style better, but that's because it came first. the new art style is just different. I agree with those who say a Pirate Orc is cooler than an Orc Bard. I'm glad we won't be forced to paint everything.

It would have been cool if the doors were slightly larger and actually "opened" (but maybe with the limbs sticking out it would be impractical to actually make it so they can "pass through")

IF you are trying to paint stuff, the lack of cardboard on furniture is good. It increases the cost, and the only place cardboard was actually a problem to me was with the open doors (which quickly got bent unless you removed them carefully from the bases in between gaming sessions and which of us did that?).

I don't object to a remake, but I also would have been cool with a straight up reprint if that had been possible.

The "fall over and break" thing I don't think will be an issue. If they haven't been lying up till now, they are using some kind of polymer (rubbery plastic) rather than 3d printed resin or even the kind of plastic of the original set. If they're anything like Reaper Bones mins, for example, they will be very resilient. Its nearly impossible to "break" these (bend, yes, but you can fix that easily with a boiling water dip). Those type of materials need to be CUT rather than "broken" like they would just come apart in your hands or if dropped off a table and stomped on by "accident." I have seen videos where people have broken metal minis just by shuffling them around loose in tackle boxes, whereas the polymer is a much sturdier material.

If the miniatures were that delicate, I'd want the box to include foam forms to hold everything, wouldn't you? As such though the only worry would be paint getting chipped off as they bounce around in there (hence why I use varnish to seal the ones I paint).

This shouldn't be for collectors, it should be fully playable out of box for those who will never want to touch a paintbrush or buy anything else extra. Yes, the original game had some assembly required (the miniatures were on sprues... and the gargoyle was a multi-part piece as were nearly all of the furniture pieces... tiles had to be punched out, etc).

I can see now why they put the HQ logo on the other edge of the board, it's gotten a bit taller with the extra large squares. You're likely to have a bit more table space this way.

the more cartoony sculpt was much better done. if they focused on the mini and not the bling, most of the new stuff look much better. i feel the "modern" look for all the "details" that were never needed is going to bring down the minis quality in the end.

Those spiky shoulder pads are already going overboard.

Also notice the new skeleton has a large gap where only the spine supports the mini. It will be more likely to break than the new candles, and the old minis had more points of connection with the arm attached to the hip as part of the mini to give more stability. Skeletons are finicky things to make a mini from,a nd quite possibly, this is going to be one of the biggest failures in this version.

I am sure someone's gonna fix that spike before painting. :D

It looks like the arm may be attached as well? Either way, I think I'm gonna want some foam mini storage for these things.

The prior/original pieces had their issues, too, with molding and detail. Even on the heroes. Though I would like to think Hasbro/Avalon Hill would take the opportunity to improve this, it doesn't surprise me all that much. Hasbro/Avalon Hill are not Games Workshop which focuses on tabletop pieces. They are focused on the game, remake, and overall presentation which will leave us with some undercooked parts here and there. I guess it will just have to be up to us to improve homebrew style as it always has been. Kind of like Skyrim. The video game is great, but let's be honest, the mods really add to the overall experience and I imagine this will be the same. We all like HeroQuest out of the box, but we love to modify rules for house rules, exchange pieces for better models, create new cards, dice...I mean this website is a tribute to that very thing. SO, I'm not going to sweat what they do too much. If I don't like something, I just change the channel on the tv. If I don't like something in the game, I modify it. In the end, I own it, I play it with my friends and family. I continue with my hobby and we all have a great time. Honestly, I'm looking forward to the final product. I'll likely galvanize the set for things I like and apply it to my overall game that I have restored, enhanced and painted myself. It's all project and journey for me. It's never really a finished project.

1. Cut off the spikes from the armour.
2. Remove the weapon entirely (thankfully easy to do due to the nature of the figure).
3. Add a shield to the upraised right arm.
4. Add a sword to the other hand. Other hand weapons might work well to.
5. If desirable, cut the right arm at the shoulder and reposition the arm, just to give a bit of variety to one or two of your skellies.
6. Replace round base with proper HQ bases if that’s your thing.

I’ve converted hundreds of figures and have an eye for this sort of thing, if nothing else. I guarantee you will have a better figure. The classic skelly got away with having a scythe because it was unamoured, and you could just about imagine it was the corpse of some peasant. But an armoured skeleton with a farm weapon just looks dumb. The spikes make it look even more ridiculous. Say what you want about Games Workshop but they really knew how to create proper figures.

I can’t guarantee that it will still match your old figures though, as I think they’ve scaled up considerably (and annoyingly).
