Who is saying the game is a failure because the Gargoyle's wings are too big? Not me. We all know it's a flaw in the original game that the Gargoyle is "too big" for crowded rooms, and we all know that it was a multi-piece figure with removable wings (and head!) so you could make more room.
Me either, but it seems some can only discuss things that are perfect int eh world, and cant critique anything, or think those that do critique anything are "hating on it".
I know we wont get the original reprinted exactly, and am partially glad, because i like minis, not cardboard doors to bend and tear.
That being said, i like good minis. For a mini to be good it needs to look what it represents. The gargoyle does that in form, and even strives to give the feel of the original. Minis for games, or any pawn or playing piece should be made to fit the game, and for gridded games, then minis should fit on the grid if there is intent to allow other minis to be able to touch it. That is something no mini has even really done that has ny detail, as the minis were either tiny like a pawn or a Monopoly thimble/puppy, or Clue rope. Minis that took off with greater detail after RAFM, Ral Partha, Genadier, etc didnt use gridded boards to paly. AD&D/BD&D most times measure in inches like wargames such as WHFB or WH40k, or BattleTech, etc. Later Mage Knight, before it became HeroClix tried off-topic have the mini fit on the base in msot cases with the larger dial bases it used, but that soon fell off as the minis went back to being designed for looks not for use. Which was great if you bought a Nightblade or other of the Limited Edition pewter minis on a non-playable base so you have something for those minis collectors that arent gamers.
Even WH40k succumbs to the problems of base-to-base melee combat and the minis cant properly fit around each other without a grid except to "shove them together". WHFB had movement trays at least.
So in regards to the gargoyle and other minis yet to be seen as samples, i just want to be able to play with a table that fits in the grid the size a table should be, and a gargoyle that fits in its 1x1 grid space as well, and every other mini to for once be able to properly be used as per the rules and diagrams in them state for LoS and melee, etc.
I would be in favor for HASBRO to make more detailed collector minis to purchase separate. That way people playing the board game have enough detail like the old minis to play with, while fitting on the board, and the RPG players and collectors can get their uber detailed larger sculpts to paint and collect for whatever they wish to use them for, including using the them for playing HQ with (even if they dont fit the grid on the board).
In the end, anyone can use any mini they wish and i can use my old minis on the new board. Anyone ca use a new WizKids mini in HQ for a new monster they homebrewed, etc. Changing the rules at yur own leisure/risk. I just would like to be able to play out of the box without having to fiddle with things like figuring out ow to fit a gargoyle next to an open door without getting its arm or wing stuck in it for someone to tip over and possibly break one of them, or the thing to be bumped and break off a candle form the Sorcerer's Table because it is so unwieldy in design for its intended purpose... a board game that uses grids for location of the "tokens" represented as 3D miniatures, representing the monsters and furniture.
