Color for physical inspection only? Upon looking at the, it looks like fresh dog

why does everything look like is it half melted, even the barbarian muscles now look worse than the prototype dragon Joe Macaroni was sent.

I have seen better sculpted models form PlayDoh. Once again they fail to understand now minis work, as the Gargoyle doesnt allow any minis near it. Its arms physically prevent minis from being base to base with it. Has 30 years of miniature making taught nothing about how to make a miniature fit within its footprint? This Gargoyle wont be able to have the wing taken off during play so that you can fit minis around it either because they too make it take up what appears to be 3x2 squares on the board.

no more evil bunny, but at quick glance for color blind like myself, it is hard to see whether a die is white or black shield.... they are somewhat too detailed now. i would be better with a less detailed white shield so there isnt so much black to have to figure it is a white shield if you only see the amount of color, not the shape of the white shield, not the shape of the black shield...maybe scaling the white shield down a bit on the dice would help notice the shape of the shield better?

The only way the dice could be more generic is if they were white with black pips (when I think of monopoly that's what I think of). At least make them translucent or something.
:roll1: :roll2:

It makes me think they were like "hurry, we need to put SOMETHING out there... use whatever you have lying around!" which doesn't speak well of such a wealthy major corporation. Then again maybe Avalon Hill is a poor outfit and they don't have all that Hasbro cash (then what's the point?? this isn't supposed to be some low-budget indie game that somebody slapped together in their garage over the summer... but a major tribute/remake of a fan favorite beloved for a generation, promoted by one of the biggest gaming companies in the world and virtually synonymous in peoples minds with great toys, right??).

Making the miniatures that beige color is to show that they are probably just 3d printed resin and not even the proper plastic, but the image is very small (low res). We know they won't all be one color, but as far as colors go it is easier to see detail than white, and if they made it gray they would confuse us thinking they were going to back to the "they won't all be gray" thing from the fundraiser pledge drive.

The super thick round bases remind me of some of the more recent fantasy board games that have come out. I want to say the Dungeons and Dragons one has identical bases. I know, someone will say "but with round bases you can swivel the character around so easily!" but in Hero Quest "facing" doesn't matter at all, and while the prototype images (like you see in the original tv commercials and some of the photos even that appeared in box fliers or painting promos) have round bases, nobody had round bases in the package. To some this is an improvement.

Imagine if you are one of those people who is obsessed with the characters fitting the bases properly (I showed picks of my own 1 inch square enlarged board to show that everything fits just fine with classic pieces). Now there's proof that the new figures won't take up the whole square, for better or for worse. When we played the old game I never had a problem when there was a pit trap square or skull tile under the figure. Now you'll just be able to see a little more of it underneath. If you really wanted to make the tile visible underneath, make the base entirely transparent, right? But don't do that. Keep it simple, keep it more like the original I say.

:barbarian: I never liked that the Barbarian has one leg up on top of some rocks. It's dynamic, but he's already tall and big, and none of the other characters get that, right?

:gargoyle: Great point about the Gargoyle's "removable wings" (in the original). No such luck here...

Twitter is a toxic cesspool that won't be missed if it ever goes away... so thanks for posting! Those look like they could be something other than 3d printed, as the "dragon" looked.

Other than the boring color (which they've said won't be final... they agree with those of us who said most people won't paint their sets), they're no better or worse looking than the CGI "not final" renders" on the fundraiser page.

Those are the two biggest minis in the set (Not counting furniture of course), I take it..

1. as written on the image they are factory sample. Final product will be colored.
2. the pic he posted was a screenshot taken by his phone and with low quality, I posted a better pic above.
3. neither the old one does. Not a serious problem for me.
4. as above, but since the back is not visible in the pic we can't say if this is a single piece or an assembled one.
5. I agree with you on this point, I don't like the white shield as it is too much similar to the black shield.

Does anyone else see a slight resemblance between this gargoyle and the character Brooklyn in the animated series "Gargoyles"?

Good point... but it does give him more of a pounce in his sword lunge.

There is another problem with it also, it doesnt match the rest of the system. Look at the original tweet, and you can see the same dice icons as the sample dice.

Then look at the weapon rack, and you see the original white shield on it, as well the new black shield. So the dice imagery doesnt match the minis.

Nice they are making the shield have the games iconography, but why have the old shield on the rack, then a new lion for the white shield on the dice?

is there nothing you folks can not find flaw with?

these dice look cool, the new dice faces look cool
the old style shields on the weapon rack is an homage obviously

this set is looking tight to me
seems there are those who might be dead set on hating the new set regardless and everything sucks...

I must be looking at the wrong picture. The one I see shows the gargoyle in base-to-base contact with the barbarian with ample space on one other side. The two remaining sides might be a bit tough with the wings there. Those wings are clearly a separate cast from the rest of the model (probably the tail too), but I expect they'll be glued in when the game arrives. Unlikely to be hard to detach without breaking, so you'll be able to do your add/remove yourself quite easily.

Round bases are nice because you can swivel the models around to deal with any protruding parts. Most models have some bits that stick out and areas of dead space that can be occupied by another model's parts, much easier to align them with round bases. The bases are unusually tall in the picture - most similar models in mass-market games have much thinner bases, like Imperial Assault and the D&D board games.
