Just finished my homebrew cleric and rogue classes, so now I'm going to start actually painting up a set of the base game. Last time I did this I was 14 years old and using Humbrol enamels. hopefully I have improved enough in the intervening years to not totally ruin my set. First order of business is repairs and cleaning up of mold lines/ sprue connection points. I have a feeling the other half isn't going to like having tiny shards of multicoloured plastic all over the living room. :D

Any tips on safely removing enamels from plastics (like the Heroquest originals)?

You can use a site like MPC to have them professionally (and rather inexpensively, I'm not a shill by the way) printed if you wish, and then there's the worst way, which I don't recommend, which is waiting for some shady bootleg sale on ebay where you'll pay a lot more and have no control over the quality.

Lots of options have been proposed. You can print them on actual cardstock, or cut out the paper and paste it to chip board from an old cereal box, or toss the front and back with a piece of card sandwiched in between (I've even heard of people using like bicycle playing cards for this purpose) inside a sleeve. Whatever floats your boat. I like to use glue-sticks for my tiles.

They said they wanted us to play-test this stuff, and they have to know mods will happen, so I can't imagine Hasbro being upset about it, unless you try to sell them. Just my personal opinion...

I might have to try MPC out once I come up with visuals for all of my expansion ideas. I have 1 new hero class, a bunch of new spells, some gear, and even a couple of boss enemies I'd like to add.

MPC (via its affiliate/sister site boardgamesmaker) doesn't currently offer a tile that's the right size to match the Character Cards from the NA version (haven't measured out the EU character cards to see if they would work). For that I just print, glue-stick to chip board and cut out when dry.

Now if you're using the new Remake format, they're the same size card as everything else, so whatever size that is (either the same as NA size, or US game card size which is 1 mm shorter). I did toy with the possibility of using a Jumbo or Giant size playing card as a kind of expanded version of the character card (with space on top and bottom for a line or two of info) but haven't followed through with it. These cards would be much thinner than just pasting a print-out to chipboard. Now you could try emailing them and ask for some kind of custom size tile perhaps, I'd be curious what they'd say.

I might convert my custom characters to that as well just for fun, but if I wasn't doing all new artwork, I'd only "have to" do the character cards, and the front backgrounds "to match."

I backed Altar Quest a while ago, and it just delivered, so I'll be busy with that for the next little while. Along with that came 200+ miniatures. I also backed their fantasy miniature line. My plan was to use those for my custom HeroQuest set because I don't have the original anymore. So that adds another 200+ minis. I haven't painted before, I'll also be spending some time screwing up some of these minis to prepare for the new HeroQuest ones.

If you're interested, here's a quick review that I made of Altar Quest's contents: https://elvyler.com/2020/11/altar-quest-unbox-and-content-review/.

The Reaper Minis Forum suggests using “Castrol Super Clean”
Castrol Super Clean (purple plastic bottle) won't harm plastics, not even clear plastic

so just fill up a PLASTIC sealable container with the stuff, then toss the plastics in & let it sit for a couple days, then you can just get a toothbrush & some water & they come out clean (depends on how long you let them sit in the fluid.

I have to do this all the time in my nascar model cars, I use lacquers & some enemals on those so I'm talking expereince here!!! ha ha

Also defeintly use a plastic container to fill, cause CSC will react with the metal.

what am I doing while I wait ?
Well, I ended up not backing the game. Hoping to find it in a retail store (used or new) 1 year from now or something, or on CraigsList, or Kijiji ads online.

Here is what I'm doing in the meantime:
- Recovering from my crippling loss in Diablo 2 (Sorceress LV65, Amazon LV 43, both Hardcore characters)
- Playing Diablo 1 multiplayer (called Tchernobog) with cool people.
- Trying to not get frustrated at the tabletop community for only wanting to play DnD 5th Edition 99% of the time.
- Staying busy with isometric design practice and watching Youtube videos related to 3D modeling.
- Working super hard on my HeroQuest mod that has amazing functionalities and add-ons.
- Trying to get past the 2nd quest in the game ''Stone Shard'' for the 23rd time...
- Staying alert and seeking new dungeon sound tracks for better ambiance.
- Creating a super duper ice ramp when it snows in my area (Canada)

One thing I'll be doing while we wait a year is getting my own devious plans to expand the game ready. I want to add 2 new heroes and a bunch of new spells. My question is if I'll be able to make all the templates needed to bring my ideas to life before the game ships, or if I will have to wait until I get it.

For example: I want to add a new Fire Spell. I've seen the tentative backs of the Spell cards, but I think I would need an unobstructed view of each of them to be able to make templates.

But I do have pictures ready for the schools of spells I will be making, as well as one miniature design prepped at Heroforge and another one still in progress.

Update: Making templates might be easier than I thought! I found a tool that blends out text!

I’m currently building what I need for Mordheim (City of the Damned). Never played it myself but quite a few people have said it’s the best game Gamees Workshop ever created. I’ve printed the rules and scenarios, I already have the models, so I just need to start building all the ruins for terrain.
There’s a fair amount of overlap with Heroquest. Have any of you ever played Mordheim?
