Under Official HeroQuest Releases there is a subtopic of Game Systems. That is plural and already covers each edition as a whole.

released by Milton Bradley
would be the key portion of the description of the subtopics, leaving the interpretation that a new area is needed for the products released by Hasbro.

(Yes, I know that Hasbro owned Milton Bradley even back then in the 90's, but MB is now defunct and these are not partnered with GW, not released under the MB brand name but Hasbro itself, and it is a clear differentiation.)

Then we add the subforum titles for the various questbooks. I forgot that in my quick mock up

Because it already fits under “Official HeroQuest Releases”. It is an “official HeroQuest release” by the (now) parent company of MB and discussions with it should stay in the “Official HeroQuest Releases” section.

Unless we’re debating the merits of this release not actually being an official release, and should be in a separate room because of that.

Your proposal would potentially make sense if this was being put out by another company than Hasbro. (In which case it wouldn’t be an “official release” it would be a something else.)

Why do you feel the need to separate one official release of HeroQuest from the rest of the official releases? Unless you’re planning on breaking out each of the releases into their own rooms as well?

I can't beat this over your head any more than this one last try.
The 1st edition was made and released by GamesWorkshop and Milton Bradley
the 2nd edition is currently being made by Hasbro and has nothing to do with GamesWorkshop and even though Hasbro owned MB it doesn't represent it's former subsidiary MB in this context anymore, therefore it WILL be different, not the same as the original.

Will it be different enough to warrant a new HeroQuest room forum section and subforums for the different release titles? No way we can tell until it is actually released, but in my opinion it is different enough already, if only for the new material such as questbook titles and heroes.

If people are reading along in the KK subforum released by Milton Bradley and someone starts talking about how they used the druid, and the reader doesn't have the new stuff, they won't know what is even going on. Conversely, if someone is discussing a fimir placement in the KK subforum released by Milton Bradley, someone only familiar with the new release won't know what is going on either. They are different versions in different editions. IF you can't see that, I can't help you see it.
We need separate discussion areas for the MB/GW releases and the Hasbro only rereleases

Oftkilted, your logic is similar to those who think Wizards of the Coast invented Dungeons & Dragons instead of TSR due to a misunderstanding of the history. Yes, Wizards of the Coast now owns TSR's D&D and is the publisher from 3rd edition on, but we still differentiate between the editions by who published what for clarity. It's still the same game (D&D) just with rules adjustments and art style changes right? Wrong. Of course Wizards of the Coast is now owned by Hasbro as well. We doen't say Hasbro publishes D&D (it does though, under it's Wizards of the Coast subsidiary)
So is Parker Bros. owned lock stock and barrel by Hasbro these days, but Game Board Geek still labels old stuff as released by Parker Bros. or Milton Bradley or Hasbro not whoever owns it now.

How will splitting up then discussion forums into segregated sub forums help the cross discussion about those exact issues?

We already have discussion threads on the new material, they’re in the main forums. They’re introducing that new material to the community as a whole. It’s official material.

How can folks possibly get that in the 1st edition of the EU rules the cards weren’t the same as the release that’s posted up on the British Version Treasure card page?

Those cards had an additional line that stated that for the gold and valuable treasure the cards were to be put back into the bottom of the treasure card deck?

Or North American players who never had the opportunity to use the Hand Axe? Or what about the absolute insanity of a NA player boggling over “how did the Wizard use the Spirit Blade to kill the monster ... they can’t use the Spirit Blade!”

In these alternate editions, there will be differences. Segregating players based on editions just makes it harder to learn about the differences. Being able to explain something new to someone is an awesome learning opportunity. And an opportunity for you, the advocate and master of the game, to teach someone new something cool.

XKCD said it very well ... in that “Today is your lucky day, you’re one of the lucky 10,000!”

How can I help you understand that being able to explain something to someone and have them excited with you, is much better than keeping folks separated because someone might not understand.

it will be on the same HeroQuest rooms section, just one link down, not some separate forum in a foreign country twenty websites away. It isn't being shafted to the "other games" section either, it still would be on the HeroQuest page because it's still HeroQuest albeit a 2nd edition. You've got separation anxiety dude.

So... why haven’t you proposed to take your plan to the logical outcome of this proposal, and split out the other editions from the core “Official HeroQuest releases”?

So, let’s say that they follow your complex idea and break up the forum into sub-editions.

If we wanted to talk about the differences between Classic and the new release, what subforum should we use? Classic or 2nd edition?

If we’re discussing modifying the new quest chains to use old monsters, do we do it in the old forums, because this is for the 1e NA system ... or does it go under the 2e NA sub forum?

If we keep the current organization, then needing to decide which is the appropriate “edition” because it is a discussion that crosses editions becomes moot.

Why add complexity to a system when it isn’t required?

Simpler is better, and the current rooms/sub-areas already covered the official HeroQuest breakdown.

because they all were released by the same company Milton Bradley during the same game system products run. This Hasbro rerelease or reboot isn't, it is different.

Oftkilted wrote:

that isn't what I'm proposing at all, you still are confused.

Oftkilted wrote:If we wanted to talk about the differences between Classic and the new release, what subforum should we use?

The general discussion of course.

Oftkilted wrote:If we’re discussing modifying the new quest chains to use old monsters, do we do it in the old forums, because this is for the 1e NA system ... or does it go under the 2e NA sub forum?

It goes in the HeroQuest Additions section already dedicated to mods and homebrews

I am proposing keeping the current organization and complexity, (just adding a new section, which WILL have to happen for the new content anyway) you just aren't seeing it.
