nice.
like I said, those who really wanted it are in already.

I had to come to terms with the stupid orc and get past that addition to canon, before I could really contemplate purchasing a second set.
I concluded that two of the base game and original expansions is worth it alone, even if I dislike the new hero options extra incentives.

They want our gold!

All members and visitors to the Inn, hear me!

I want all of you who are pledging to please place your left hand upon Loretome, raise your right hand and repeat after me:

"I (state your name),
On my Honor as a fan of Hero Quest and member of Ye Olde Inn Community,
Do solemnly swear,
That I will never scalp the Hero Quest Remake (2021) on Ebay or other online platform (or out of the trunk of a car),
That is to say I will refuse to sell it to another at greater than the equivalent price I paid including shipping and tax in order to make a profit.
If I shall break this solemn vow, may I henceforth constantly fall into traps, fail in my defensive rolls, and generally get crap when I draw cards.
And should I break this vow, when I play as Zargon, may the Heroes easily beat all of my schemes, get bored, and quit to play Fortnite instead.
So be it, Mentor help me. "

Disclaimer: I have nothing against people selling rare items on Ebay (or selling current items "at cost"), this was in reference to the hypothetical practice of buying up stocks of it in order to make a current item rare, and then taking advantage of the ignorance of fans to charge an unreasonable price. And if marking up your Hero Quest remake is the only legal way to save your starving family, who am I to judge? |_P

I can't imagine selling, I hoard my HeroQuest stuff like a dragon. Even if I just think this new version is just ok, I wouldn't part with it for collections sake, and my spare set would likely be given to my brother anyway.
But if I absolutely hated it (or parts of it) and wanted to sell, an eBay auction seems the way to go, then the price is out of my hands. So be it.

Oftkilted wrote:It’s a “modified version” of the NA rules.

There is no separate forum/sub forum for NA Rules and EU Rules ... or EU Rules and EU 2nd edition Rules.

It’s all “HeroQuest” this isn’t a “HeroQuest 2.0/Advanced HeroQuest” situation. Where they’ve got colored dice and additional stats, or are rolling D20s.

We don’t even know what will be changing (other than there will be some minor rules differences and model differences)

Consider the rules differences between NA and the various EU editions. There are enough differences between those editions that they play like a totally different set of games. But they’re all part of the “HeroQuest” game and weren’t separated.

At worst we should have a “rules differences between “HeroQuest ‘89 and HeroQuest ‘20” thread.

32 years difference is more than significant. The style of art and figure sculpts alone is a big departure from the original. All of the original versions and the small differences between NA and Europe were still the original first HeroQuest release, the 1st edition; this is clearly the 2nd edition not an add on to the 1st edition as some kind of compatible expansion.

the scale alone means that the 2nd edition figures, furniture, board and tiles will not be compatible for use with the 1st edition. If it isn't compatible with the old version because of style, size, rules changes, new direction with the story (wise and noble misunderstood wizard king orcs and their foppish bards, sigh) removal of GW content and setting, etc. then it is really a reboot more than a rerelease and clearly not the same game or any kind of expansion for the original HeroQuest.

It should have a seperate area here on the forum for posts regardless.

While this might be a “NA 2nd edition” ... the EU has already had a 1st and 2nd edition. And they’re a bunch different. Probably no further apart than this new edition and the NA edition release. And probably less different than trying to compare the NA and and the EU editions.

The rules are at their core. Are the same.

Until we see the rules, and what they told us turns out to be completely wrong splitting a forum and discussion into even more segregated groups makes no sense.

Arguing that because something is a different age it should have its own space?

Based on what we have seen, we can literally take new heroes from the new release and play them in games with the original heroes. Quests from the new edition? They can literally be played with the old classic sets. Use a couple different models? No problem.

Art? There are reimaginings of art cards that pop up on the Forum, I know because I’ve had the pleasure of reading them. We’re looking at totally different stylings. So the art is different. a different art interpretation. (Which are the pictures on the box.)

The “lore”? there’s difference between the GW version and the new version ... but by how much? There were 3 core novels ... and a comic book. While the place locations may be different, alternate takes and creative discussions on the differences should be brought together so that they can be shared. Not shuffled into separate rooms because “an edition isn’t old enough to sit at the classic release table, you get to sit over there on the younger edition table”

The scale? We’re talking millimeters difference here. Maybe 6? A base square is ~22x22mm in classic and 25x25mm in the re-release?

A classic miniature base is ~24mm x 22mm. The new figures are on 25mm x 25mm bases. If you were overly zealous you could remove the new miniatures from their cast in one piece bases and probably put them on classic sized bases.

The furniture? It’s the same furniture from the core game. Perhaps a couple mm different in size, but we don’t actually know how much different they are in size. And then there’s all the custom Zealot Miniatures furniture ... it’s 30mm in scale. Is it playable in the classic release on a classic board? It’s probably a touch tight ... but I’ll bet that it isn’t that much of an issue.

The board? People create upscaled custom boards all the time. There’s even a miniaturized board from someone who made a custom “travel edition”.

Players use custom miniatures, or alternate sculpts. They put minis on circular bases, and standard 25mm bases. They use “non-standard rules” change out Magic for Alchemy....

People create custom card decks for treasure, equipment, artifacts/quest treasure, spells, and even custom heroes.

Remember, at the core, they’re all it’s HeroQuest, the components may be a different scale, but they all interchange.

The same core rules with “custom cards” provided by Hasbro, a slightly larger “custom board”, provided by Hasbro. And custom minis, because the old minis weren’t available.

Not being an enthusiast of the changes isn’t a reason to shuffle new players into a segregated discussion area.

Discussing the differences between the various editions is what the HeroQuest section of the board is about.

These are part of the “Official Rules” and “Game System” ... they’re not something completely different.

It’s about 40K from 3.6M it’s been averaging about 11K/hour. and there are just about 5 hours left.

And $440,691 from $4M (or 2939 copies of Mythic Tier) ... maybe something special will happen. I think that 3.6 is reasonable. But it’s going to take a whole bunch to hit 4M.

TAKE THE OATH

Postby Kurgan » November 6th, 2020, 8:08 pm

So say we all! (to the vow above)

$30 shipping to the US + $10 (?) tax, plus whatever you paid. Just keep that in mind! And next year I expect to see some official Inn reviews. Can't trust those online personalities who get review copies for free...

PS: We will NOT reach $4 million (at $3,562,759 as I write this... 6:11pm CST which is 1811 for you 24 hour clock types).

That dragon chess piece will just have to be sold as part of some other Hasbro thing (or remain in digital limbo forever), maybe they can shoe-horn it into D&D. Sorry folks! I don't imagine Hasbro will be magnanimous enough to allow the designer to sell his own piece at his pleasure, it probably will just go back into their vaults.

But we WILL be getting those two extra low budget "Creature from the Black Lagoon" goons (why didn't we get Frankenstein's Monster) and those two "not-chaos warriors" with the he-man sword instead of the oversized mace. At this point it's as if they gave us third Expansion... assuming those Quest books don't just have a handful of new quests between them!

I'm afraid for right now the "L" sign the female Sorcerer is making, really is true for her goal. Zuckerberg, if you were waiting, now is the time.

They've been pretty tight lipped about the rest of the content, though. So for now, I'm going to assume whatever is going to be like it was in the NA version until proven otherwise by an official source.

See some of you guys next year! But seriously, make the Inn your home and discover the joys of Classic Hero Quest, in the meantime! Work on your mods... |_P

Im not advocating moving the discussion out of the HeroQuest rooms, but adding a sixth area specifically for it to the HeroQuest Rooms. I think it is different enough and important enough to garner its own area rather than just be relegated to the HeroQuest general discussion threads.

but yeah this too.

hahaha that made me chuckle.

your examples of customization or substituting minis from other companies or whatever are entirely irrelevant to the discussion, there already is a seperate HeroQuest Rooms compartment for that.I am strictly talking about the offical released products only.
