You know, if the bard comes with a mechanic that everytime he opens his mouth to sing there's a chance of attracting wandering monsters or alerting a nearby room, I think I'd be okay with that.
I can just see the team combating a pair of dread warriors in a room that has three closed doors, in the middle of the melee, the orc opens his mouth and takes a big breath...
Noooo! Yells his teammates all at once, but it's too late! The orc bellows out a hoarse note while strumming the crap out of his mandolin. The nearest three doors burst open as wide-eyed goblins peer in with a 'what the hell was that!?!' look on their face.

Then again, how do we really justify the monsters not hearing a full blown combat going in the next room? Between the death screams, sword/shield impacts and explosions, it's a miracle that the neighbor monsters don't come to investigate.
Either dungeons are acoustically insulated, or the minions of Zargon are mostly deaf.

Meh... mechanics vs realism. Sometimes realism just over-complicates game mechanics.

Plus relying on the buyer to visit the Hasbro site themselves and read up to find out the release schedule, price, etc.

SHADY

If it were me wanting this "service", I'd rather message somebody on this forum and work out a deal. There's no protection if you go through Paypal/Ebay (other than filing a dispute and giving him negative feedback).

I myself got burned on a PayPal sale of a product (unrelated) that was never released after a year. I'll never get my money back.. lesson learned!

Hopefully Hasbro will undercut guys like this by shipping in other countries without the horrendous international shipping hike. Still not as bad as the guy selling Ye Olde Inn cards he printed from MPC on there!

It’s actually against eBay policies to sell pre-orders like that transaction is suggesting. As they have to be shipped within 30
Days of the auction closing. And they haven’t explicitly identified that it is a pre-sale/pre-order for a product that doesn’t exist yet. The auction implied it by providing a link to the external Hasbro haslab site, but it doesn’t actually state it.

eBay Presale Policy

And if you’re ordering that many copies, you sign up for the Hasbro premier which gives free standard shipping. (Costs ~$50 usd to join)

Good catch. Definitely Shady! I couldn't see where he was actually breaking Ebay policy before (but you're right, I do now!). He can still "provide a service" if he waits until its released, but then he won't be able to take advantage of uninformed buyers... I won't shed a tear.

Ebay wrote:

Presale listings must clearly state that they are "presale" in the title and description, and guarantee delivery within 30 days of purchase.

In order to protect buyer and seller guarantees, presale listings must follow eBay policy, including listing the date the item will be available to ship.
What is the policy?

Presale listings must guarantee that the item will be shipped within 30 days of purchase
The date the item will be available to ship must be clearly stated in the listing
Listings must clearly indicate in the title and description that the item is being offered for presale
Handling time details should include the time the seller will wait to acquire the item, in addition to the time it will take to ship to the buyer

Activity that doesn't follow eBay policy could result in a range of actions including for example: administratively ending or canceling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.

So if you paid him now (or on Nov 1st) you would NOT get the product "within 30 days." When Ebay cancels the auction, the people who already purchased will get their money back. UK, Australia and New Zealand have their own legit distributors.

Report Item: listing practices, inappropriate seller terms (presale)

Don't patronize scalpers like that guy!

And the 2.4M stretch goal has been reached. Next goal 2.6 and the hammer time Orcs.

Apparently stretch goals are “manually triggered” and not automated. As it shows as 2.401M but it isn’t showing up on the “reached” section for the Druid.

I'm not surprised...

Let's just hope that unlike the real Druids, the designers know who they are and what they are doing.

Does somebody with Twitter want to "Tweet" a question to Hasbro/Avalon asking what equipment cards can we expect in this edition? (I don't have an account and I refuse to get one)
Will we get the EU exclusives?

Cloak of Protection (not just Wizard's Cloak which is an Artifact)?
Bracers (wizard armor)?
Spear?
Hand Axe?

Speaking of Cards... I'm assuming the Wizard can't wear Borin's Armor or use the Spirit Blade or Orc's Bane as in the NA version rules, right?

I also wonder WHAT SIZE are the new cards?

Last time I checked at least Skeletons don’t have ears. So you shouldn’t end up with seeing them come looking for you.

Hilarious stuff. I guess you could reason that maybe they do hear, but wait in the shadows for their own opportunity (which falls into the old "they only attack one or two at a time instead of mobbing the guy" trope of onscreen Kung Fu fights). Skeletons are animated by Chaos, they just are...!

In one quest I did put all my monsters on alert at one point, giving them black dice to attack and blue dice to defend (which means, run... regular Orcs are extremely deadly at that point). In Hero Quest at least you don't have to worry about sneaking up or whatever. Whoevers turn it is automatically has the "initiative." Mechanics. At a certain point, gameplay and fun win over realism.

You know, I created a twitter account purely so I could follow the HeroQuest updates.
.... and then I deleted my account because I decided that twitter is stupid, and it's more than I want to deal with

So!
I aint tweetin' nuthin.

Maybe it's not so much that the minions of Zargon are deaf or have no ears. Maybe they fight amongst themselves enough that they're just used to the sound.

Re: Heroquest remake by Hasbro - The BIG discussion thread

Hello all. I just posted this on BGG - apologies for the redundancy if you watch both forums - I thought that this might be useful information.

So yesterday we did a playthrough game with wizard, dwarf, warlock, and druid, with EU/UK rules.
All characters had accumulated previous earnings, so the Warlock started with 2atk, 3def (the warlock inherited bracers and staff, of similar value to what the Elf had previously bought), and the druid started with 2atk, 2def (she inherited a hand axe, of similar value to what the Barbarian had previously bought).

Both the wizard and dwarf had equipment allowing them to attack with 2 dice, defend with 3.

Here's some observations

Druid - quite powerful, played a nice barbarian-like role with 3atk and 3 def in her bear form. However, very fragile to traps, which make her insta-lose her power (the party sent the warlock first - and later realized that too was a mistake). Between her healing spells, the wizard's, and found healing potions - she managed to shapeshift twice (and could have done it again but the game was over by then). Healing spell was used once, but not pixie - very situational. Fun to play, though I wonder how she will fare at higher levels. Give her a battle-axe for 5atk 3def, compared to a maxed barbarian with 4atk 5 def (plate and helm).

Warlock - fun to play, she spent most of her time in demonform with 3atk and 3def. She felt like a rogue, immune to traps. the party sent her forward, until they realized that while she doesn't trigger the traps, neither does she reveal them automatically - the dwarf spent most of his time "disarming" the traps with his face (read- he activated every single trap!). The 3atk ranged attack didn't feel overpowered, since the elf did play with a 3atk crossbow the previous game. She transformed twice too, losing a first HP due to a careless door opening (swarmed by orcs). She killed one, getting her power back, and in the final scene she would have lost her power again, but instead used her "dark wings" spell. That felt great. Fear wasn't used mainly because the boss got instakilled by a genie (5 atk dice, 4 skulls, even if I gave him 3hit points like by US rules, he rolled very badly in defense... Even the goblins rolled better, dude), otherwise the party planned on using it as plan B. Not sure how she will evolve at higher level, maxing with 3 atk, 4 defense (compared with the mage's 2atk, 4 defense, but a total of 9 spells to chose from).

In short, both characters felt great mechanically, and the druid seems OK with her evolution (she has access to weapons though she will lack in defence). The warlock seems to have an easier access to her demonform spell (it is easier for her to kill safely from a distance), but she feels like she will max out as a weaker character compared to others. in my humble opinion, here is the ranking I would give them

1: the barbarian (I mean, Look at the Muscuulaarity!). Greatest number of dice late game (4atk, 5def) AND hit points!
2: the druid. Stronger attack, but weaker defense and hit points than the barbarian. She can heal a total of 6HP though
3: the elf. Same dice throw as the barbarian when fully maxed and same hp as the druid. Has access to 3 spells (we usually play him with earth spells, giving him a 4hp healing ability)
4:the mage: super weak in attack, but has 9 other spells (2 fire attacks, 1 genie massive attack, 1 courage spell to stengthen another player for a while, 1 healing spell of 4hp, 1 ability to put an enemy to sleep, and 3 other spells rarely used (1 spell to make another miss a turn, 1 running spell for a turn, 1 spell to pass through villains (?) for a turn).
5: the dwarf. Same dice as the barbarian, 1 fewer HP, but only compensating ability concerns traps (and somehow still manages to always roll a black shield...)
6: the warlock. Early game she would be ranked higher than the mage, but late game she is bested by a crossbow-wielding elf or a 9-spell-versatile mage.

There we go. TL:DR - warlock and druid are mechanically fun additions. Druid is well balanced throughout the game as a weaker barbarian alternative. Warlock seems well balanced in early games, but I'm concerned she'll feel less powerful as other heroes gain in strength.
