ouch - hurt feelings.
...
Just kidding. Now, are we talking sucks:
1 - due to the fact that it would be bad to have to fight it?
OR
2 - it just sucks and it never should've been invented, and I'm a dweeb for trying it?

Thanks for the brutal honesty, though. Never be afraid to tell me something sucks.

ah...okay...I get it. See what happens when you only get 3 hours
of sleep two days in a row - you don't even remember how to read properly.

I like the sucky monster.
It sucks...

I would have them hiding on the ceilings and attaking the last guy in the formation.
Also I would make the hero pass a mind check looking for a black shield to notice s/he is being sucked on by a giant mosquito.
I don't like the idea of it staying attached until the hero dies. Its only a big mosquito. Say after it takes 3 body points it flys away.
Of course they should come in packs of 2-7 bugs.

Don't make them a chaos monster though...make them a hazard for monsters and heroes alike. Perhaps an entire mission to eradicate them where the forces of chaos and the empire must band togather to end the insect scourge.

see what you did there? You went and made me start thinking about an entire dungeon bassed on giant bugs!!!
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

nice thoughts cynthia - I like the idea of having them attack monsters too.
Say the quest takes place in the outdoors - the wandering monster could be
the moscarick (not sure about this name - I just added it to give it a real
name for now). And as you said, the monsters would have to worry about
them, too.

And, if you you're interested, I'll put together to other "vermin" I have for
HQ and post them. You might like some of them.

I would be more likely to go with Giant Mosquito over moscarick. The word doesn't come off my tounge easy enough and although it has mos as the first three letters of the word, it does not evoke the thought of mosquito.

Vampire Flys
Mosquito, Ubber
Giant Mosquito
Anopheles quadrimaculatus, gigantis
Minions of Tallywig (Tallywig is an NPC created by my brother about 30 years ago for a dungeon he designed and me and my partner ran away from. Tallywig was known as Tallywig the Insector, his powers allowed him to turn bugs into giant versions and they followed his commands. Over the years Tallywig has become a shared NPC in three differant dungeon masters games.)

If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

hmmm....that does give me an idea. Perhaps there was another person, maybe an apprentice, with the young
wizard who inadvertently created the things...he managed to escape. I could come up with the name of the
young wizard, and they could be named after him.
Creatures of __________, perhaps.

Okay - I added the insect and "vermin" monsters, as well as my thoughts for undead.
Enjoy.

I am hoping sometime soon I can start working on settings for these things. We'll see.
