Just discovering all the wonderful work on this website and has motivated my rediscovery of a long dormant Heroquest. Wondering as I have spare plastic bits of the furniture has anyone made different/alternative card templates To go with them? Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question or the answer is obvious to the more seasoned gamers!

Yes, there are such templates.
Explore here, clicking the buttons: http://north-american.yeoldeinn.com
and here: http://www.papercraftsquare.com/heroquest-furniture-papercrafts-free-templates-download.html
and here (click on "Neue Türen" (new doors) and "Neue Möbel" (new furniture)): http://www.heroquestworld.de/sites/brave/?site=schreiner

There's probably even more out there...

When you say "alternate", do you mean a replacement or with a totally different design so that it may look a different furniture?
I did one for the Wizard's table:

Looks great lestodante -I have the UK version which never had a cardboard section and I remember thinking it looked as if I had a missing section.

Of course, I didn't before because I was not sure about the paper size, but just made a new topic for it anyway so anyone can try to print and apply:
