Ye Olde Inn

Hello everybody!
Long story short: I played HQ in the nineties when I was a kid. My colleague just got himself a HQ box => I wanted one too. Finnish edition is sold for 200€ (230$). Decided to save money and make it myself

So I started with the most fun stuff, the miniatures. I'm hopefully doing the whole board with all the accessories too. I'm not copying the original to the point and I want to give the characters my own twist. The minis are going to be roughly 38mm scale with 32mm round bases and the board tilesize is 35mm. I'm doing most of the stuff on computer and then printing them out with my resin 3d-printer. My pipeline is still a bit experimental, but I got pretty decent results with a test version.

Here's my progress so far. Hero party and goblin done, so that's 5/13 completed. Images here are only renders for me to get some idea of the scale and proportions.

Now THAT'S how you do an intro post. Welcome! I think you're about to be inundated with requests for purchase. You created these yourself? They are superb!

38mm is appreciably larger than most 28-32mm models, isn't it? Is that so you can squeeze more detail out?

Can't wait to see the rest of the lot! By the way, you said 5 out of 13 done ... I take it that you then aren't going to make varieties? In the real game, you have different weapons on the Orcs and Goblins, at least giving some visible differences between those units. You are not planning on doing something like that? I am guessing new or different weapons wouldn't be that much of a problem; what about new poses?

The dwarf looks a bit tall scale wise if the base is assumed the same size.

Thanks. Yeah, I made them myself. 38mm is somewhat the scale GW uses and I thought that I stick with that scale as it gives me an option of using their stuff if needed.

Thanks. I'm aware of the different weapons. I'm not counting them as different minis as the weapon switches are pretty much trivial to make. Different poses are a big ordeal as I'm sculpting these to the pose to save me some technicalities of the process.

Yeah, I'm having a bit of troubles with the dwarf's size. I may have to bulk him up horizontally some more.

I think you might have overshot with your 38mm.
I sure hope you didn't measure a Space Marine to the eyes cause he's supposed to be a 7-foot-superhuman.
32 (or even 30) mm to the eyes might be the most accomodating scale if you want to fill your collection with stuff from many manufacturers.
BUT I guess a taller scale for heroes and characters should be fine visually.

I'd be very interested to see some test prints and scale comparison pics. Are you planning a kickstarter for these? I'd be in day one!

BUT I guess a taller scale for heroes and characters should be fine visually.

I haven't scaled them properly - just eyeballed them. When I get all the figures done, I'll do a scaling pass on them to get them matching. But good point with the space marines. I have to dig my boxes to find some more "normal" sized minis.

I'll definitely post my first prints here. What you would like to see as scale comparison?

Uh... Kickstarter is way beyond of what I have thought of this small project. I'm just doing these for fun at night after I get the kids in bed
