Forgotten Realms HeroQuest conversions

I'm currently trying to work out moving some Forgotten Realms stuff into a Heroquest format. This is mostly for
my own purposes, but I figured I would post it in case anyone might be interested.

I will most like work on transferring some races over first, along with some spells as feats and such. This will,
of course, require a minor rules additions and/or the addition of skill cards. I have noticed that folks on here
are not completely against the idea of skill cards (since they can add to the game without really changing the
rules), so I will try to go that route when possible.

I will work, then, on some actual characters and/or monsters.

If anyone else has anything to offer, please feel free to post in this thread...any help and/or ideas are welcome,
as this will prove to be quite a project.

You are free to use my Skill Card deck and fiddle with it to suit your purposes. :)

As far as conversions, are you talking about statting up existing lore characters like Elminster, Drizzt, etc., into a HeroQuest stat block?

Basically, yes. That is my hope...to take some of the major characters and turn them into HQ stats.
They'll lose a bit, I'm sure, but I'm hoping I can keep any loss to a minimum using skill cards and such.

Interesting idea for a conversion. Hrm, let me help.

Morcar/Zargon/Chaos = Bane

Truthfully though, in my opinion, someone like Elminster would be (I would guess) something like: Attack 4, Defend 4, Body 5, Mind 12, Move 8

So did anything ever come of this that you could share? Of course, I'd much rather have Dragonlance, but FR is good too.

No, as usual, life has gotten in the way - I haven't touched anything HQ or rpg related since I posted this.
Maybe soon...I go on vacation in a week and a half - maybe I'll have the time, then.

I can identify all too well. Heh...

Many years ago, I tackled a couple D&D conversions, basically the starting modules from the old ('81 era) D&D basic and expert sets (Keep on the Borderlands and Isle of Dread respectively)... They were both simple enough that it worked fairly well. if I recall correctly, I did have to make some allowences for lost detail due to HQ being a much simpler system of course, but it was my initial foray into converting HQ into an RPG-lite system.

After that, I just started hand crafting everything from scratch because the conversions actually took me longer than just writing my own RPG-lite modules.

It was a good experiment though. Really wish I still had all my old HQ stuff...*Sigh*...

Success to you on this if you get around to it.

I also think something like this could be a fantastic Community project, where everyone agreed to a particular setting and divied up the conversion chores for various modules, mechanics re-writes, monster stat normalization, and so on.

Or, even better co-developed a unique setting?

Do you still have those conversions? I'd love to have those to use. :)

I was going to do the spells anyway when I get round to it. I had a very old forgotten realms game for the ST that I loved (Curse Of The Azure Bonds) and I want to convert the spells from that. I need to find a list, I'll see if I can download the instruction book for it. I don't know how many are missing from it but there were quite a few spells in that game. I've already done Fireball and Lightning Bolt for my Talisman spell set.

Fireball: Targets a square in sight of the caster and all other squares within three squares of it (diagonally counts as 1.5 squares). All targets roll two standard dice, or three dice if they're vulnerable to fire, and suffer one BP of damage for each dice that doesn't score or a five or a six.

Lightning Bolt: The caster fires a lightning bolt in a straight line horizontally, vertically or diagonally which has a range of two squares for every current MP of the caster and attacks with one skull for every magic level of the caster. Targets wearing metal armour have to reroll successful defence dice (twice if they're Cursed). If the lightning bolt hits a wall it rebounds back in the direction it came from if it hits the wall straight on or at a 90 degree angle if it hits the wall diagonally. The lightning bolt moves straight through furniture but is blocked by a closed door or a spell such as Wall Of Fire/Ice/Stone or Barrier unless it destroys the spell effect.
