Now for the bosses!

Well, let's go to Howard's favorite supermonster, the giant Snake.

Here i would really prefer some feedback as I don't want to make it a simple enemy nor too deadly.

Yeti Hug. The initial attack counts as poison damage. In the two next turns the poison will remove one body point per turn.

Large monster (2X1) diagonal attack; if any hits aren't defended, poison further reduces the defending Hero's Body Points by one. (Snakes aren't both poisonous and constrictors. But hey, if you want both, this is fantasy after all.)

Anderas wrote:Now a personal favorite of mine, Thaug. Howard was using the ctulhu lore once in a while. I could point two, maybe three occasions where he really used Lovecraft's background. Thaug is coming from there, so of course he is accompanied by green light and a lot of tentacles. Once, Conan encounters him, and it is a close call. Thaug apparently is not very good in attacking, but can take a lot of damage before dying.

Thaug:

And his tentacles (i think there are 10 in the box)

In principle, you see the tentacles first. Later, Thaug will appear. It will be a fight worth a full group and some mercenaries....

A Hero that has his Body Points reduced by a Tentacle can't move and will automatically lose 1 Body Point from constriction at the end of his turn (until the Tentacle is destroyed.) Tentacles must remain within four squares of Thaug.

For the Notes: Alll Tenticles begin in play, but Thaug only appears 1-3 turns later. A constricting tentacle may pull a Hero adjacent to Thaug on its next turn. After Thaug is reduced to 0 Body Points, any remaining Tentacles are removed from the board.

Thanks for the feedback, Daedalus!
Indeed, i made all the monsters equal or a small bit harder than the main HQ box, so that i don't have to fill entire rooms with them. Plus, i mainly played with defense and Body Points, as the system gets really different if you add to much attack.

You seem to go the other way - make them roughly same-ish, just different, is another viable way to go. Definitely, I immediately bought into your concept for the mummies. The picts, well, they just look so much more massive as model than any of the comic picts or film picts, that i didn't want to give them goblin values. :)

For the bosses,

There are two of those tentacle monsters in the Box, 10 normal tentacles, and 2 slim tentacles with hooks at the end. Thaug himself is the "small" one, and then there is a "monster from the deep", which is a really big one.

I got the opportunity to make some photos today. Thaug is 4x4 fields on my 30mm board

Image

The giant snake takes 4x4 fields, as well
Image
As the giant snake really just is a giant snake in the original books, i wouldn't give it a fantasy boon to do both, poison and constrict. Thanks for that remark! So, i go with poison.

However, the really huge tentacle monster... wow! 4x3 fields, or maybe 3x3 if you try hard, on my enlarged board!

... definitely, it deserves a dedicated scenario and a dedicated map. Other than Thaug, who can "walk" on his tentacles, this one is half underwater, so the original heroquest board is kind of unuseable. Some kind of sewer map with large rooms would be a better fit indeed.
In the game of Conan, this thing has an unlimited number of tentacles. It shows it's main body after some rounds - if you are still on the board when it appears, you have lost. Simply.
