Quest 1 of the Dread Moon expansion has large areas covered with water and some drain squares. The expansion did not come with respective overlays, alas.

Do you know if there are already any fanmade overlays that one can print out? Otherwise, please see this post as encouragement for skilled people to create such tiles for the HQ fan community. I personally would be happy to use them.

There are the "frozen river" tiles from The Frozen Horror. Granted, there probably aren't quite enough in the box to cover all the possible water tiles but you can print out more of them (from this very site).

If you have the Frozen Horror Quest Pack, use the icy tiles and tell the players that they are flooded squares. Simple as that.

If you like to do crafting, here is how to go about making you're own water tiles: Get some clear, solid plastic sheets made of PVC or vinyl. Score and cut them out to shape. Apply really watered-down paint.

The color of paint you can use is based on the type of water you are going for. For clear, clean water, go with blues teal and turquoise. If you do it right, you'll be able to see the bottom. For more murky dungeon water, use more browns. You can apply the watery colors on one side and a dark tone to darken it. The ground less visible, but should be visible enough.

Its good to consider the number of tiles you need. For this adventure you'll need: x7 1x3 tiles, x2 1x5 tiles, x2 3-square corner tiles, x1 4x5 room tile, x1 6x5 room tile. Although, for general-use for watery adventures, ideally you'll need: x12 1-square tiles, x16 1x3 tiles, x4 1x5 tiles, x8 2x2 3-square corner tiles, x4 2x3 4-square T-junction tiles, x4 2x4 6-square T-junction tiles, x6 4x4 room tile, x2 4x5 room tile, x2 3x4 room tile, x2 2x3 room tile, x1 6x5 room tile. (for the 4x4 15-square room tile, use a 3x4 room tile and a 1x3 tile)

Use what you will...

I wanted to use some kind of blue translucent plastic sheet with pieces cut to fit the rooms and corridors, but its too much work for something I will only use once, so I will never bother. It would be cool though.

Well, I'll be sure to keep my fingers off the icy rivers from the Northlands. Their style does not fit well to the Dread Moon campaign setting in my view.

But I like the ideas with the transparent plastic sheets. It might be worth the effort to craft such pieces, even though they are needed only for one quest. I can imagine these things looking much better on the board than printed out paper tiles.

Overhead projector transparency sheets are easy to cut using only scissors and are available at office supply stores.

Or cellophane folder inserts. Cheap...
