Posted: November 18th, 2010, 6:23 pmLately I ve been seen many Avatars of War minis. I must say that i was impressed by the high quality and super detail i saw on pictures and immediately though of getting one for HQ hero. I particulary liked the high elf noble mini which is this
Its one of the most beautiful minis of the theme i ve seen. I ordered it for another reason. Since i havent paint 28 minis before (although i painted 54 and 60 mm figures back in the days) i wanted a metalic figure to exercise, so when i mess up (the most propable) i can strip the color of it and start again, without the tedious procedure of plastics (dettol i love you). I must say that i though that it was abit strange that the company excibits only greens and not cast models.
The mini got here today and i was so excited (seeing a package on the table after i get home from work, makes me always happy) and run to open it. Guess what... The mini is too small. Its too thin and delicate in comparisson with the HQ minis and those are kinda small minis if we think in modern GW scale terms. Its like the kid brother of the Barbarian. The monsters wont know what to do with him. Fight him or spank him and send him home.
Also i faced some other issues with the mini. The super detail... well its not exactly as seen in the photos. Its not bad at all, but not that otherwordly thing you see on the green. Because offcourse its the green and not his degenerate metal cousin. The parts wont fit very good. The cape drove me nuts cause its too thin to pin and to heavy to stay in place with glue (and i mean super glue, so strong that i glued a broken part of guitar tremolo and never broke again 6 years now). Finally with the help of all Gods ancient and new, i got in place (to tell you the truth maybe my curses worked as incantation). Tommorow it will be milliput time. And alot of it. You will have to be abit creative with the cape drapes.
Its going to be tough to paint with that size. The eyes basically dont exist. I notices that AOW doesnt exagerates its figures like GW with big hand, heads etch. Its anatomically truer but because of this they are smaller.
Does this happen with other minis of AOW or i got the silly one?
