That's a nice list. I have several of those printed for myself, and I see many more good ones in there too. Thanks for sharing!

Does anybody know where this guy gets his STL files from or recognise the models?

https://www.ebay.com.au/str/Minis3D?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

I know about a third of them are from Thingiverse but he has a whole lot of other awesome models that I would like to know where to find so that I can print them.

His models stl comes from various sources, thingiverse and Patreon. There are a lot of Patreon users creating 3D minis and if you support them you can print and sell their minis for as long as you stay subscribed to their "seller" tier.

Have you tried contacting the seller directly? Maybe you can convince him to let you know where to find the files.

I bought a couple mini's from this guy and have talked to him a while back. If I remember correctly, he said he has a friend that designs them for him.

Try contacting him and see if he can hook you up.

the various Hero Quest related STLs out there... the original ones, are pretty awesome (though I have avoided a lot of those that look very fragile.. I did have the female elf one break off at the legs, but was able to repair it... it was resin).

The scans though leave something to be desired. YES, when painted, they look much better, but the best ones (in resin) were the Mercenaries. The next best were the game system minis. The EQP/BQP lost a lot of detail and the worst looking one has got to be the female Barbarian which looked like she had been made of wax and melted. Still, cool that some form of these exists. Nobody will ever confuse these with the real thing, which is fine (don't want people being fooled by bootlegs).

The various "Fixed scans" I see are they just took the previously scanned version and added their own bits. So somebody actually took the Ogres and added "open mouths" (you can see extra rows of teeth for some of them) and new, long sharp swords. The fuzzy scans with sharply detailed weapons are odd looking, but then maybe after you've painted them, they would look all better.

If you have access to a 3d printer, better to do it yourself than to pay somebody to do it for you!

I think this solution is best for filling out your army or creating dupes to test your painting skills and for the original creations. But if you're looking for a more affordable solution to replace the ones you don't have, you might just go with reaper or some other cheap minis.

A good bit of the models there are mine. He sells a lot of my minis. You can find the stl files on my store https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Mon ... Encounters
and my patreon is Monstrous Encounters. Right now I'm working on all the special characters from the main set (sir ragnar, ulag, etc)

With or without your permission?

I take it you do those in resin?

He has permission. He has a merchant account with me. They are designed for resin, but I've seen people do them in FDM.

Ah good. So on your monstrous encounters page, you're selling the minis or the STL files too? I'm done buying pre-printed minis at this point, since I have access to a 3d printer.
