My version of a spider

Hey everyone, I came up with this as a way to introduce spiders to my quests stats would be: move(6) Attack(3/3) Defend (3) Body(1) Mind(1). Let me know what you think, if anyone finds any of my ideas interesting feel free to use them.

spider. The spider is represented on the quest sheet as an undiscovered trap. If a hero searches for a trap in the area/room as a spider, Zargon will say that you see webbing on the tile where the spider is located.
A hero may destroy the web by attacking it. rolling two or more skulls on their role destroys the web. If a hero attacks and roles less than two skulls the hero’s turn is immediately over and the spider attacks. Fire may be used to immediately destroy the web.
If a hero succeeds in destroying the web, immediately place the spider on the board and allow the heroes to finish their turns.
If a hero stumbles on the web without destroying it first, the hero becomes entangled in the web. The hero’s turn is over and roles one less dice in attack and defense for as long as the hero remains trapped.
A hero may free his/herself on their turn, they can roll two red dice, if the combined total is equal to or less than the hero’s starting body points the hero has cut themselves free and is no longer trapped in the web.
spider attack. If the spider afflicts damage to the hero with their first attack, the spider then attempts a second attack, with their second fang. If both attacks damage the hero, the hero is injected with a hemotoxic venom.
If the hero finds themselves envenomated they must roll one combat dice on each of their next three turns. If a hero role’s a skull they take one body point of damage. Instances of envenomation are cumulative. A hero can immediately recover from envenomation if they drink a poison antidote.

We have giant spiders too, turns out those AHQ or was it Warhammer Quest miniatures came in handy after all!

Our rules for compare and contrast.

Swarms – Rat or Spider

Same rules for swarms both Rats or Spiders (except Spider attacks are poisonous), the number of figures should be twice the size of the Hero party, typically 8.

Move: 10

Attack/Defend/Body/Mind = Special

Poisonous attack (Spiders only not Rats), Ambush*

*Ambush – monsters with the Ambush ability are not placed on the gameboard as per normal ‘reveal rules’ and are generally not indicated on the Quest Map as per normal monsters to prevent confusion. Generally, the room with be marked with a letter that in the Quest notes will indicate that on Zargon’s turn if at least one Hero is in the indicated room or corridor then the Ambushing monsters are placed in the room or corridor indicated, adjacent to any Heroes (like Wandering monsters), if more than one Hero is in the affected area then the ambushing Monsters should be divided as evenly as possible between the Heroes.

Attack – rats and spiders are placed and attack immediately by rolling a single attack dice, if that shows a skull then the Hero loses 1 BP, otherwise the attack has no effect. On the Heroes turn the reverse is true, a single attack die is rolled, if a skull is rolled then the offending swarm member is squished, otherwise it remains.

Swarm members will continue to attack the same figure until it or they are killed.

I'm querying whether Mind should be 0 or 1, probably doesn't matter in most scenarios, I shied away from 0 as they aren't Undead, but should you be able to put them to sleep, seems doubtful but fortunately no one has tried in our games so it hasn't come up (yet)!

Awesome! Thank you, I am glad that someone else had the idea of essentially giving the spider a potential trap ability seeing as that fits with the nature of the enemy. I agree with you, the heroes should not be allowed to put spiders to sleep, we could always add that as a feature. Spiders are not affected by sleep spells.
