I recently picked these neato dice up from a copy of Dungeon Dice (1977).

Each die has the same distribution of symbols on its six sides:

1) Dagger
2) Lantern
3) Ladder
4) Key
5) Guard
6) Shovel

What do y'all think would be a fun way to work these into a game of Heroquest?

Very cool. Are they the same size as the HQ dice?

I wouldn't know what to do with them.
For any of these symbols to work when you need them, 1 in 6 is a useless probability.

I would use a variation of the rule of the dice game Threes.

You roll all six, but you're not allowed to reroll any Guard die, and you decide what other symbol you want to go for, needing 3 to secure a rewardable outcome, or try to "shoot for the moon" with 6 Guard rolls.
