HELP! Weapon cost/damage/range mods

I'm getting ready to host a game with some of my friends' kids and I don't want them to tank up too easily. Here's what my goals are:

- Not modify the quests (This means ammt of gold found, monster stats, etc)
- Have a new Armory for the players to pick from
- Make new char boards for unarmed/unarmoured heroes and modify from there with equipment
- K.I.S.S.

Here is the start of my armory:

* on the spear is for adding +1 die if used 2-handed

Thoughts? What are the bare stats of the heroes sans gear? I'm thinking just strip it down:

Code: Select all
           AD DD BP MP
Barbarian   1  1  8  2
Dwarf       1  1  7  3
Elf         1  1  6  4
Wizard      1  1  4  6

Might work, although some are pretty expensive. Might take them a while to gear up, and if they should die, they have to start all over again.
I say test it!

I cut some costs, but boosted a couple too referencing various gaming sources:

Also I added possible restrictions, and the original costs of things for reference.

Code: Select all
                         Starting          Starting
AD DD BP MP   Weapon(s)           Armor

Barbarian   1  1  8  2   Broadsword        Leather
Dwarf       1  1  7  3   2x Hand Axe       Leather
Elf         1  1  6  4   Shortbow & Dagger Leather
Wizard      1  1  4  6   Quarterstaff      None

Leather +1
Chain   +2
Plate   +3/-1 move

That puts our heroes' final stats at:

Code: Select all
                           Starting          Starting
AD   DD BP MP   Weapon(s)           Armor

Barbarian   2    2  8  2   Broadsword        Leather
Dwarf       2(2) 2  7  3   2x Hand Axe       Leather
Elf         2(R) 2  6  4   Shortbow & Dagger Leather
Wizard      1    1  4  6   Quarterstaff      None

This makes the goal picking up shields, helmets and/or a cloak of protection for the Wizard ASAP:

Testing might be a problem. =) I'm trying to run the kids through the 1st and maybe 2nd quest this Wed. (Spring Break)

I think there might have to be some _forced_ treasure cards early on like helmets and what-not.

Thanks for the reply though. Please let me know any other thoughts you might have. Next up... Character sheets...

Are you playing the NA rules? (I take it you are). Then you should be fine. My group has an expanded amroury as well, but it got too OP quickly with EU rules/monsters. So we quickly switched to NA rules too.

Yep, North American rules.

Here's the start of the Char Sheet, OK it's a draft... A ROUGH draft:

The Equipment has 2 lines so that the player can write "Longsword +2 Att"

Looks great! I made one as well, for all 4 heroes together: http://yeoldeinn-heroquest.blogspot.nl/ ... sheet.html
Didn't put as much info on it as you did though, but that might be a good idea to do. Just to keep track of where the group is in the game.

Thanks you guys for sharing your solutions! Is it alright if I incorporate bits and pieces into the design & development of my house rules & char sheets?
