Cursed Items

One thing you don't find in HeroQuest is cursed items. I ask, "Why not?"

Here are some examples that I've come up with...

Blood-thirster

This magical battle-axe is a two-handed weapons that strikes with 5 Comabat dice of damage.
(this is what the Hero's see)

(...and this is what Zargon will tell them after they equip it...)
however, it is cursed! This axe will bust draw blood every round or it will strike your fellow Heroes or even yourself!! You must roll lower than your current Mind Points on 2d6 or you must seek out & strike the nearest target and score a successful hit.

(...the trick is...)
The axe must strike 25 different opponents to sate it's lust for blood. The Hero wielding it must keep this weapons equipped until it's thrist for blood is extinguished. Once 25 victims' blood has stained the axe it becomes a normal 5 CD weapon PLUS it adds 2 Mind points to the wielder.

Dagger of Life

This is a magical dagger that inflicts 1 CD of damage. For every successful hit, a second Combat Die is rolled. A second Skull result means that the wielder has absorbed 1 Body Point from the enemy. However, the wielder loses 1 Mind Point for each Body Point absorbed. Note: Mind Points cannot go below 0 and reaching 0 Mind Points puts the wielder into "Shock".

See addenda rules for handling characters in "Shock".

I love the idea of Cursed Items, or just items with afflictions. Like the Runic Axe in the Prince of Thieves Dwarf Solo Quest. The Blood-Thirster really reminds me of the Dark Relics everyone at Old Scratch's collaborated on last year. It is my belief that there should be a risk to gaining power every once in a while.

I like the Dagger of Life. I think the second Skull also resulting in a lost Mind Point to be a bit excessive. Perhaps if a second Skull is rolled, they absorb the Body Point, but if a Black Shield is rolled, they lose a Mind Point? Although, now that I think it through a bit more, the Wizard would be the Hero to make the best use of this as he'll be in a greater need for BP and has plenty of MP to spare. Could always have Dagger of Life and a slightly more powerful Dagger of Souls.

I remember the Dark Relics, but wasn't really happy with the classification. I think it should be more subtle. An Artifact gone bad!!

What I would like to point out is that the Life-Stealer can't be put down, either. So it's not really a matter of which weapons shall I choose to defeat this enemy, it's can I risk my life to defend it?

We could call them "Artefacts"! The only British word that I do not use. It just looks strange, I don't like it. Oh, this is becoming an idea thread. How about an item (weapon, armour, what have you) that gives and takes like the Dagger, but it doesn't have to be kept. It can be passed off, or dropped. Dropped, but not lost. Then Monsters could pick it up and use it too. A curse that goes around and comes around until someone picks up the torch and takes it for the good of everyone until they can destroy the thing, or at least seal it for a time.

Perhaps a Quest Item?

Maybe even something that Ragnar has found?

Hahahahaha! Such a subtle reminder, but yes... yes. Was that why they Captured him? Or was it an Artifact of Chaos that lured him into their clutches? Perhaps they took it from him, and it's power had already consumed him and he took it upon himself to seek it out for his own, already corrupted and twisted self. Or maybe it was just a gift for his girl and he became pissed that they robbed him and left him for dead in a cell. Then his blinding rage send him on a mission of vengeance. Anything is possible... everything is possible...

Or perhaps it is an over-used, yet sutbtle, tool to enable the antagonist to redeem himself and not be quite the vile, evil person he seems to be.

Off-topic stuff is great. it's the best place to discuss ideas.

For cursed items maybe there is a weapon that curses the enemy or something that curses you and once you've slain a certain amount of monsters the curse reverses and the monsters you attack are cursed when you do body points of damage. I just had an idea! We could.... no I lost it
:( .................................um.....................................................uggh.................
Sorry I thought I had grasped on something pure genious, I forgot!
