What I think of Gatchaman, I think of this:

That was even before Transformers, G.I. Joe and Thundercats.....

And Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Ulysses 31, Bionic Six, Bravestarr, Gobots, Dinoriders, TMNT, D&D cartoon, Visionaries, Inhumanoids, He-Man, She-Ra, MASK, Robotix, happy times! happy times indeed

I think they had the animation done in Japan.

I'd be really suprised if Battle of the Planets was not dubbed Japanime.

Battle of the Planets was English-dubbed anime. Gatchaman CROWDS is the newest incarnation of the series Gatchaman. Its actually a very intelligent show, that basically defies the common tropes and conventions of shonen anime. The main character is basically a tight-fisted adherent to Socratic Methodology that comes off at a ditz unless you pay attention. The show works on many levels, if you're smart enough to reach them.
