[Insert Quest story]

On the map above: gargoyle = chaos sorcerer, wolf = basilisk, elf archer = goblin archer (still trying to get heroscribe icon pack to work :x )

A - [insert offensive spell] scroll found in the desk.

B - Chest contains old jewelry stolen from the town villagers during the raid. Value 50g

C - Health Potion found in the cupboard.

D - Traps doors are linked, and can be used to travel both ways between rooms. Weapon rack in top room is empty. Chest in lower room has more stolen villager jewelry. Value 75g

E - Trap chest is empty.

F - Orc in the top corner is [insert mini-boss name], and has +1A and +1D from regular Orc stats

G - Rock trap is triggered once the last Hero passes, sealing the Hero's in the hall and preventing escape.

H - Chaos sorcerer has [insert list of debilitating spells like petrify]. Note for Zargon: Your goal is to debilitate all Hero's at once. Once accomplished, regardless of BP left, announce the Hero's have been captured. As their vision slowly fades to black the last thing they see is the horrible faces of their merciless captors. **immediately start Quest 3**

H - So what happens if the heroes actually manage to kill everybody? Don't underestimate crafty heroes!
Is a killed hero dead, but a petrified hero captured?

This and the next quest are pretty nice, but I can't help but wonder if an auto-loose battle and weaponless fighting (back-to-back no less!) is a bit brutal for the intro quest?

This exactly!

I think if a quest requires the Heroes to be unarmed at the beginning, it can be established in the Quest Notes that they were captured and disarmed. You don't need to have (or rather, shouldn't have) the previous quest's ending do it for you, that's just too unpredictable.

My thought was a "killed" hero would be explained as they were knocked out at the beginning of Q3 in the notes. As for the fight itself I was hoping to make it pretty clear cut and over powered in favor of Evil (we can easily adjust the monsters in the room to do so... More basilisks?) In Q3 I tried to make the weaponless portion fairly brief before they make their escape, which is why the rack is only a room or 2 away.

For the hero stats; I rather like my stats I made, but if it's been established before how the hero's fight unarmed then I guess we stick to that. Of the 2 versions I like the NA way more, plus that's the version we're using for everything else. Again, it's such a short section it probably won't matter too much. TMU is out on vacation for a couple days, so I'll confer with him when he gets back about changes :)

Anyone played Megaman X - End of stage 1:

Auto-loose is a horrible feeling...
It is not a dealbreaker for me, but I want us to really consider if we want to throw this in the players' faces in the second quest.

This is my very personal opinion, and I'd really like others to pitch in here.

You could always just make the chaos sorcerer invincible.

I agree. If they can't win or die then there's nothing at all at stake and even rolling the dice is pointless. They should still be able to die, but the basilisks (and chaos sorcerer if he can as well) would have to have a rule that they have to try to petrify, or at least they would on a dice roll, of say a white shield, and maybe you get to decide what to attack with on a black shield.

Edit: Holy crap I'm a necromancer! :D

Mega-Man X is one of my all time favorite SNEX titles! I get the concern about the auto-loose, maybe we can re-structure it so it doesn't feel so crushing. I'll toss some ideas around with TMU when he gets back.

Edit: I swear English is my 1st language

Another way to do this that I think would be better is to make it a scripted event instead of relying on open gameplay that the heroes can't win. As soon as the first hero steps into the central room the dm reads a piece of story about the battle and them all getting turned to stone. Just write in the notes that the monsters can't leave the room in case the heroes decide to back off.

That's the direction I was leaning toward, some kind of scripted event once they get in the room.
