Brainstorming topics for the HeroQuest 25th Anniversary Quest Pack.

Seeing how I paint my custom minis to match the "out of the box" solid colors, I have an obvious affinity for HQ purism, even when "branching out" :)

I agree. The pol should just be open to everyone. This is supposed to be a project for the people.
Where ever we end up, I'm gonna support the decision though - I think all the options are viable; we should just settle on something soon.

I assume if we end up with new monsters, that's a discussion (poll?) all in it's own right. This is simply HOW we are gonna do it.

New monsters will bring a perspective to the game, although I understand others opinions for why they are hesitent to incluce new monsters, I feel what would be open up to us if we did include new monsters outways staying true to the original monster line up :D

Skaven and Chaos Dwarfs all the way baby!

Sjeng wrote:...We create a cool template for the pdf, with a nice 25th logo (working on that already), and release it to the public as an exclusive Ye Olde Inn fanbase project.

Requirements:
- writers have champion status
- original 4 heroes
- original hq board and tiles. New tiles may be created and added to the pdf.
- 1 quest each, 25 quests in total.

What do you think?

Is this to be realeased simply as another download from the Inn, or are there other designs for releasing to the public? For instance, fan-created expansions have also been released at BoardGameGeek.

Setting the project at 25 Quests is a lot. I would allow some mini plots to be written entirely by one author, if that is the vision and less that 25 contributors are pledged by X-mas. It may go without saying, but I think a one page limit on Quest notes is the way to go. If a Quest takes more space, it should be split into a double Quest.

The issue of which edition is to be used has been brought up. My wish is for both EU and NA editions to be supported seperately. That should keep everybody comfortable with the play experience, but also increases the editing and formatting workload.

I'd be willing to help out in the editing department. I'm best suited for NA rules, but EU is also doable. Knightkrawler also could handle the EU side, probably better due to his play experience. Of course, others may want to work with editing, and I'd say the more people helping out, the better. That would of course involve Sjeng, as a project manager and print guy (and possible editor).

Just a brainstorm, but could an additional, parallel plot-line be constructed that only requires the base game's figures?

Its delusional to assume that this anniversary makes the game any more relevant to anyone else. We should either make this for ourselves, or not make anything at all.

@ Daedalus
I've been thinking exactly the same regarding the amount of quests. ONE big storyline stretching over 25 quests is indeed a lot!
Maybe we should consider making it more of an anthology of smaller (2-4 quests) storylines?
The plot we sketched earlier could easily be boiled down to ~5-7 quests - we could still have a longer story for the final arc.
The whole "25 quests" is a good gimmick, but it's a darling I don't mind killing...

I would prefer we did the whole thing NA style for starters. Everyone does everything with NA in mind. That will make it easier to put together and calibrate stuff.
If needed we can make an EU version afterwards.
My ONE big preference would be to NOT emulate the style from tFH/MotM book covers. Those drawings honestly suck compared to the full color paintings on all other books.

@ chaoticprime
Yeah, I highly doubt this will create new interest in the game. People who discover HQ will always want to play the game system quests before anything else.
However, I don't think it's impossible this pack will be played by other than the ones involved.
But hey, it's voluntary to join in, so nobody is doing anything they don't want to regardless.

I just posted this in the poll thread regarding my thoughts on story and figures. The ideas include my opinions on tackling the story in chapters:

Daedalus wrote:I went option 1 to mirror the release of the original system Quests and Kellar's Keep. The gray monsters highlighted in a Chaos theme is great, paralles the KK and RotWL, and deserves focus. I'd also like to see Skaven and Chaos Dwarf Quest packs done by Inn members as collaberative events, but I think they would be stronger if done seperately.

As an alternative, could the story line represent those divisions as a trilogy? The first 10 stories would form a chapter that only require the base game figures featuring Chaos, and it would come to some kind of completion for those that don't have more figures. The story would then resume in the next chapter with 7 Skaven-themed Quests and have a finish. Finally, the story arc would fully finish in the last chapter of Quests containing Chaos Dwarfs.

The end of the Skaven chapter would be the perfect time for Morcar to reveal himself as the Wizard's father. :o

Honestly, we can discuss this for a long time to come, but I'd just ask everyone who wants to write a quest or two, to simply do so.

In january we'll review what has been posted so far, and see if we can turn all that into one or two or three story arcs afterwards. All it probably takes is some story text tweaking to fit it all together.
