About phpMODs

Does anyone know about phpMODs? I’ve realized that it is possible to use the database of the forum to store new data with information as treasure decks for our play by post games. And as with the diceMod, we can do a deckMod, with custom decks etc…

The problem is, I don’t know how the phpMOD gets installed in a forum. I only know that you can expand the main procedures of a forum with custom parts of programming, but I can’t understand how… Do they just copy and paste the new functions in the existing code of the forum manually?

If anyone knows how, it is good to tell. If we do the first step, with a deck of treasure cards, we could do a lot more. For example it is possible to make a hqMOD with the player giving the directions (W, E, N, etc) and generate the image with the movement automatically.

Does this article help? If not there should be something in the phpbb knowledge base that does.

drathe, is this the same DiceMOD currently installed? If so do you know which version? It may be helpful to look through the source code.

Very interesting. I will definitely have a look at the documentation.

Yes, I’ve read some of these and I think the installation is manually. The good is that the code to create a deck of cards and choose one randomly and remove it or send it back to the deck is a very simple procedure. The bad is, that I don’t have a way to do it because I don’t own a site to do the tests… Also, I can’t modify and write a code if I don’t have the original code…… If there is no other way to install some functions and execute the creation of the new tables for the database, it’s impossible to do it.

If anyone has access to the original code of a php forum, maybe he can share that code and send it to me (if it’s easy to do it, of course…). I know it’s better to contact with that forum first, but the amount of information in their site is endless, and I don’t have the free time to read them all, on the other hand I don’t want to ask a foolish question to them, because they will answer “read the site first”

There is a special format for how the installation instructions are written. There is an automated process to install them on phpbbforums now. Previously, the instructions had to be done manually, edit-by-edit and the new files uploaded over the old ones. A lot of the really good MOD authors try to keep most of their MOD functions etc in separate files to avoid too many changes to the core files. This really helps when there are many MODs on a forum which may conflict with each other. We have a LOT here. Over two dozen. All are verified by phpbb.com for complete compatibility and security except for the DiceMOD.

Yes. We have version 0.7.2 installed. Later versions seemed too buggy to chance upgrading to them.
