I'd agree. The original HQ board design was a larger, tri-fold board sized like this one. That would make it more likely Stephen Baker had designed bigger rooms from the outset but was required to shrink both their number and size to meet Milton Bradley costs.

I have never seen 4-square-hallways, though.

Maybe you could use the extra squares to make bigger corner-room-sections? I've always felt that the rooms are a little bit too small in Heroquest; also modern games have one thing in common: rooms with more squares.

Even the heroic maps re-interpretation takes the board from 19*20 to 30*30 just to have bigger rooms everywhere.

I was looking at the board and I can probably extend the rooms out so that all the hallways will be just two squares wide. I don't know, is it better to have the rooms more faithful to the original sizes? The halls are already changed, why change the rooms as well, you know?

I've started the process of converting the 2D room tiles to 3D forms. I originally wanted to just use the tiles I found on Thingiverse, but I'd rather make them accurate to the original.

I wish to remake a tray with 3D printed slabs can you share the fruit of your work?

It's been awhile! Life happens, but back to working on this, though. The board is divided into sections that will be held together with magnets. Also, made a character card tray that uses 4 D20 dice to show current stats. You can download it from thingiverse here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4165882

WOW it's been so long haha. Well, my two boys are now old enough to play, so I'm back to printing! I found a youtuber named Gaming Geek who worked with another user to create a fully 3d modeled HQ board, so I've opted to switch to those files instead of continuing to model my own tile by tile. Gaming Geek modeled their own tiles for use with other D&D campaigns and such, but mine is a dedicated board, so I spent these last few days breaking the tiles down into my chosen sections. Currently printing the sections now in PLA on my CR-10S Pro (about 1.5 days print time per section!). The sections will be connected with magnets, as well as all the walls, doors, etc.

How'd you decide to handle walls? I think my favorite remains to take a lesson from the original board and have them be very low since it makes play easier, but I've seen some truly impressive-looking 3D builds with half and even full height walls.

Putting peg holes around all the rooms so you can insert walls (and remove) as needed sounds like a neat solution potentially (if you are worried about them falling over). Or I guess lots of sticky tack...

The walls I'm using are 1-1/2" I think.

The walls will be magnetic, as well.

That works too, and much easier cleanup! (pegs could also crack, after all)
