Crazy dice rolls

It happened last night. Kellar's Keep - Quest 9.

The barbarian was down to 4 body points. Inside a room with 2 chaos warriors and the Elf right by the door using his crossbow.
Having already made his attack, the barbarian decides to drink a potion of defence as he was going to be hit by at least one chaos warrior. I could hit him with 2 actually but I was pretty sure he would survive both attacks as he had 6 defend dice plus 2 for the first attack (potion of defense).
So I sent the first chaos warrior to hit the Elf and block the door at the same time and the other chaos warrior attacked the barbarian naturally.
My roll was: :chaoswarrior: :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull:
A little bit of excitement around the table but no one really believed that he wouldn't score at least one white shield on 8 dice.
The barbarian rolls and: :barbarian: :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull: :skull:
The barbarian fell to the mighty chaos warrior's axe.
After that, a minor dispute broke out whether or not the Elf had passed one of his healing potions to the barbarian in a previous round (regreting of course to inform me). Anyway, I let this one slide and allowed him to drink the healing potion he supposedly had only to roll a 1.

This was one of the most rare rolls we've ever seen, a 1/256 chance of happening.
Only to be blown away a little later when I rolled :blackshield: :blackshield: :blackshield: :blackshield:
Unfortunately when attacking! That's a 1/1296 chance.

HAH! Randomness is random! :-D

by the way, I would love to see a battlesystem where no randomness were involved. Just pure strategy and "mind reading".
I played an online TCG a few years back. Some "gang" themed stuff; can't remember...
They had a cool system where you had 10 "pillz" at the beginning of a fight. Then you could secretly boost your card.
It was great. All about the mind reading. Would the opponent boost or not? Or just a little to troll?
Boost many cards or save to the endgame for a surprise win?

But this system wouldn't work too well without a computer I think...

I rolled a :blackshield: :blackshield: :blackshield: attack for my Fimir today.
WTF?

I'm gonna have a shirt printed: :blackshield: :blackshield: :blackshield: on the front,
:barbarian: on the back.
For us illuminated.

Hell with that! Play POKER! looks like it could be a straight flush!

Of course, it could also beg the dirty minded question, Did you continue to get lucky later on?

I would think that there DOES need to be some type of luck involved in battle - but maybe also that there should be
a set number of autoskulls per attack? That way you know if you roll bad, you are definitely hit.

I dunno. Beernut does describe it pretty well "You're still drunk, so you attack but wildly miss".
"You charge him but slip on a piece of *lemony goodness* on the floor, and wind up on your ass - and you get stabbed thru your muscle." "Your perfect roll means that you stab it thru its bowels, they let go, and it shits all over the floor as it dies."

heh. Wonderfully descriptive that guy. Makes entirely randumb rolls part and parcel of the story.
