Priceless moments

Picture the scene. Barbarian opens the door to the final room. He sees an ogre and the stairway tile. His comrades are all struggling with low body points, so he asks to search for traps. The elf, dwarf and wizard, now knowing the room is clear, make a run for the stairway tile and freedom. Now the ogre steps up. He rolls 5 cd an amazingly comes up with 5 skulls. The barbarian has 5 body points left but has 4 defence dice. The tension starts to build. The dice are rolled. They seem to land in slow motion. They all finish with not 1 white shield showing. Barbarian, survivor of infinite quests finally meets his end. I let out a cheer of pure delight. You can picture the dwarf, elf and wizard waiting at bottom of stairs with their feet tapping, waiting in vain for the barbarian to show.

Priceless moment.

Now my group are demanding the ogre returns in the future so that revenge can be had. There have been lots of incidents which have made good quests into brilliant ones. I'd like to hear of your favourite moments that have made your day.

How'd he have only 4 defense die? No equipment, armor, etc?

He probably had a shield and helmet. All Heroes with no armor have two defense dice, Flesh.

He had Borins Armour. He did have a shield, but is now equipped with the battle-axe, meaning he can't use the shield.

That was my first thought too. And the quest is won when 1 of the party members reaches the stairs. The rest doesn't need to survive. (but the Barby needs to be replaced though, sad story).

If it's the American Version he probably has chainmail and a helmet... using a battle axe in combat prevents him from carrying a shield. No plate mail because the American version doesn't just have a 2 space penalty, but a whole dice penalty... who wants to go that slow?
