It pretty explicitly says the Heroes are not strong enough to fight Morcar/Zargon. Maybe we should figure out where he lives just to avoid him.

Or throw eggs at his house :D

While I think Morcar is a real physical person, I DO think he works better as "the concept of evil".
I wouldn't pit the heroes against Morcar in a final confrontation.
It would be like if He-Man killed Skeletor. What would he then do with his life?

But I certainly understand the desire FINALLY to kill your archnemesis!

Wow, 5 pages of responses to my OP.

I am mightily impressed, given that many of the forums I regularly read have low traffic. I did check back a few times on page 1 but didn't realise until now that there had been many more posts. Thanks everyone. Its great to learn that Heroquest is still so popular.

Just a few points in response.
1. Personally, I don't like the Mentor is Morcar theory. If my ten year old self would have been told when I first opened my copy of Heroquest that the evil wizard was also the good wizard, I would probably have put the stuff back in the box and never opened it again! :)

2. There are quite a few references to a physical Morcar in the literature, so I don't have an issue with him being in a quest.

3. I do understand the folks who are saying that having a quest where you can kill Morcar is self defeating and against the spirit of the game.
I would say that I have a LOT of quest packs; the final confrontation quest is like the 100th quest and by then its good to give the exhausted and aged heroes the chance to finally take revenge against the bugger that has caused them so much horror of the years!

I have a large warhammer fantasy collection and I wanted to use it in my quests. Briefly, my chronology runs like this
1) The Gathering Storm (with Plague of Zombies included).
2) Kellars Keep (adapted to include new monsters such as Trolls & black orcs).
3) ROTWitch Lord (adapted to include new monsters such as ghouls & Wights).
4) The Eyes of Chaos (little in common with the original, a 3 quest adventure introducing Gnolls & Bugbears).
5) Ogre Horde (introducing Elementals)
6) Cant remember my name for this one (an interrelated story combining adaptations of a Growl of Thunder (Barbarian), Running the Guantlet (Wizard) and 3 quests for the Elf & Dwarf based on the excellent Karag-8-Peaks quest pack).
7) Return of the Black banner (5 quests adapted from Drathes brilliant pack, for just the Barbarian & Wizard where they take on Skulmar)
8) Wizards of Morcar
9) Chaos Unleashed (8 quests, all adapted from Drathes pack and all loosely based around the idea that Mentor knows that the Empire is about to be invaded from multiple directions and the heroes have to find out where the hammer blow will fall, there are skaven involved and the final quest is adapted from the Durrag-Dol quest).
10) The Frozen Horror (Still on Ice Mountain but heavily adapted to cover the aftermath of a major chaos incursion. Includes beastmen, beastmen shaman, Minotaurs, a few ice creatures and a Bloodthirtser!!!)
11) Mage of the Mirror (adapted to include Dark Elves, Sinestra herself is a Dark Elf Sorceress; at the end the heroes see the secret route into Morcars fortress in Sinestra's magic mirror)
12) Fortress of Morcar (done in the style of the Barbarian & Elf quest packs but for the Dwarf introducing a Dragon, lesser daemons & harpies, plus Morcar himself).

Lots of Character development by the time of the 12th quest pack!!!

It was fast money without much risk, earned on a then-high note with the merits of a functioning merchandise.

"...THE ADVENTURES CONTINUE FOR THE TOP SELLING BOARD GAME!"
Yep to that, but I'd point out that the Marvel Winter Special included Stephen Baker as an advisor. I'd judge the comic portion was done more independently than the preceding Hero and monster content, so the cowled Morcar representation of the comic was probably such a case of artistic freedom.

They pull the game from its original background world, not just with including what wasn't Games Workskop "interest",
but also through bad art and bad miniatures.
Nothing about these two expansions fits into anything established by the previous five (including Dark Company).

I'd agree the NA expansions largely diverge, but some things within have precedence. Chaos and the Empire are part of both the EQP and BQP introductions. Also, both the Mercenary and Ogre figures were retained from AtOH and WoM. The Mercenaries were functionally pretty much the same as Men-at-arms.

Also, it isn't necessary for expansion background to reference previous Warhammer-related canon to fit the HQ world. Kalos of RotWL is an example of entirely new material that helps to define the Hero Quest world. As someone biased by early exposure to the NA expansions, I have no problem including their new material alongside as canon.

I get your point, but to me it's more about mood, art style, sculpting style. The NA expansions cater to a different taste, even though children's taste didn't probably diverge enough to not make everything "Fantasy with a Barbarian in it" awesome for ANY 10-year-old boy.
Especially seen from adult eyes, I cannot un-see the humongous differences and don't wanna put in the effort to connect the dots between the two "suggested" worlds. Referencing older canon isn't enough for the newer to fit in. "Chaos" and "Empire" are also the most generic fantasy tropes you'll find.
