Totally depends on how much material we get from the D&D loving designers. As it stands *right now* I think the re-release sits quite comfortably with the old game. Sure, the artwork and figures are very different, but the actual game mechanic is the same. Same game board, same core rules, same card info as far as we can tell, same quests with very minor changes. The Fishmen replace the Fimir with absolutely no drama (same stats). We get Dread instead of Chaos, and maybe the “Kingdom” or similar instead of the Empire, but these things don’t really change the game itself. The only things that don’t fit are the bonus Heroes and probably the Spirit Queens Torment Quest. The bonus guys can be sold on EBay or used as punishment figures for players who turn up late for game night or otherwise misbehave. We don’t know how much of a departure the new quest pack will be, but if necessary it can be ostracised by the community or preferably converted to something more familiar.
The problem will really only arise if we get lots of additional material down the line from these new designers who never played Heroquest. Then I think Hasbroquest will morph into a separate game, requiring a separate sub-forum. This will be a big shame, but I think enough of the game will be retained that the two sets of players can still be involved in the same discussions on the main forums, without it getting too confusing or annoying.
