Interesting discussion a few pages back about whether Hasbroquest should get its own sub-forum or not. Late to the topic but here’s my :2cents: ;

Totally depends on how much material we get from the D&D loving designers. As it stands *right now* I think the re-release sits quite comfortably with the old game. Sure, the artwork and figures are very different, but the actual game mechanic is the same. Same game board, same core rules, same card info as far as we can tell, same quests with very minor changes. The Fishmen replace the Fimir with absolutely no drama (same stats). We get Dread instead of Chaos, and maybe the “Kingdom” or similar instead of the Empire, but these things don’t really change the game itself. The only things that don’t fit are the bonus Heroes and probably the Spirit Queens Torment Quest. The bonus guys can be sold on EBay or used as punishment figures for players who turn up late for game night or otherwise misbehave. We don’t know how much of a departure the new quest pack will be, but if necessary it can be ostracised by the community or preferably converted to something more familiar.

The problem will really only arise if we get lots of additional material down the line from these new designers who never played Heroquest. Then I think Hasbroquest will morph into a separate game, requiring a separate sub-forum. This will be a big shame, but I think enough of the game will be retained that the two sets of players can still be involved in the same discussions on the main forums, without it getting too confusing or annoying.

fully intend to re=skin the new heroes and make cards compatible with classic. Elf bard, Human warlock, non-yoga-pants druid. just need new art, and it's easy enough to knock up character boards for them in the classic style. pretty much everything you need is here on the inn.

mageknight is a good source of minis too, they had a decent elf bard (after a repaint) and druid, and pretty much any "evil sorcerer" can fit for a warlock.

as always, heroquest is literally what you make it.

Was there ever any Fimir minis aside from the heroquest and forgeworld ones? I don't remember ever seeing any other official ones

Yep. In fact the Fimir minis for Warhammer were part of the reason they proved unpopular. The stats and the prototype model were for a creature about the size of the HeroQuest one... but the final Warhammer models were Ogre-sized for some reason. Which meant their stats were far too weak for their size and cost.

that was a really interesting read, thanks. i can see now why the abomination re-brand was a no brainer. imagine the outcry if they tried to pass that off today in a "children's game" no less.

Cool, thanks. I knew about the umm questionable background, but never saw any of the other designs, will read through that.

I have two copies of silver tower so if I need a proxy I'll just use those tzeentch bird guys, they are kinda fimirish. Wish I picked up hammerhal before it started shooting up in price. Couldn't find scans either last time I looked.

Cheers Zenithfleet, really interesting read. I’ve always liked the Fimir, they fit well in the original game as something more dangerous to encounter than an orc but not as bad as the two grey Chaos monsters. I didn’t know about their mating habits until joining the Inn. After learning that they are heavily based in mythology, it makes quite a lot of sense though; almost every single culture on the planet had a creation story based around the idea of supernatural entities mating with human women. It really makes you think :( :shock:

There were metal Fimir models in the standard GW line. You can still find them on eBay.

Good thoughts and nice detective work. I actually was reading up on Fimirs in Warhammer myself the other day. Again, connections, but not necessarily always canon connected but still! So the female Fimirs can be sorcerers while the males are the warriors. That explains why this 3d printed mini I got of a Fimir sorcerer has a more uh... feminine physique (and no club on tail).

I'm not super attached to them other than that they were part of the classic game. I don't mind the Fish Men, I just don't like losing a cool monster design, so I'd rather play with both of them. While I used Frost Devils as "Chaos Mutants" these Abominations would serve that purpose well too, though we're talking Fimir (not Skeleton) stats for those, and they're going to be Green (rather than bone white). So Fish Zombies or Fish Greenskins? I was one of those who stumped hard for the color-coded minis, so that's not a flip-flop complaint there, just thinking out loud. :fimir:

So these non-HQ Fimirs are rare (especially in plastic), I take it? Maybe 3d Printing customs are the way (happy to support official casts when they become available, of course!).

That reminds me, I was reading too how the early versions of Warhammer 40K was much more like "HeroQuest in space" (Space crusade Part II?) and had more connections to our game. Maybe WH scholars can school me on that. The mating habits thing surely would gross some people out, then again, in a world consumed by Chaos, surely one could imagine there could be willing volunteers (and in this age of equality we can acknowledge women can be just as evil and twisted as men, right?).

Of course this opens a huge can of worms in terms of how compatible the various "races" are in this particular world. D&D loves its half-orcs/elves/etc. which is a spin-off on Tolkien's ideas. I'm not against that idea, and in my "de-magicified" mod, I'm also using the idea of Chaos Alchemy practicing their own genetic engineering to "create" tougher monsters (more like twisting or "improving" existing creatures into more terrible forms).

Yup, I'd hate for that Dragon Quest to turn into another Dwarf and Wizard quest pack.
