Do you think the six Defend Dice of the Wall of Stone spell should count white shields or black shields as successes?

I would say that if cast by a Hero then white and if cast by a Monster then black, just like everything else in the game.

Just checked the Wizards of Morcar, p.5 and found the answer to my own question. It instructs to use white shields to defend for magical barriers, including the Wall of Fire and Wall of Stone spells.

@SadKitchen- thanks for your advice, I was kinda thinking the same. Thought I was onto something, but was too tired to research my question at the time.

For a little variation one could use the wall of stone in varying ways.
Minor spell casters ussing the spell defend with Black Shields.
Standard spell casters ussing the spell will defend with White Shields.
Master spell casters ussing this spell will defend with all shields.

Minor spell casters would be any green monster who can cast spells or scrolls cast by said monsters.
Standard spell casters are the Elf, Mage and most NPC spell casters in the quests.
Master spell casters of course should be any NPC spell caster that has been designated as such by the game master.

Also if we are going for fun and variety, you can make the wall a number of squares long equal to the casters MP. Instead of the flat number listed on the card.

It would make more sense of the wall had Zero defence dice, afterall it is just an inanimate object.

ethica - do you play D&D at all? A wall having defense dice is sort of the
equivalent to hardness in D&D. Stone, wood, metal - they all have a hardness
in D&D, which, for all intents and purposes, is nothing more than a form of
damage reduction. The idea is that a hero's sword/axe/whatever is not going
to do as much damage as it would to a monster...especially when used against
a wall of stone or metal or such other object.

Think of it this way, as well - the armor that a character wears is also inanimate,
and does not give the character better reflexes in dodging attacks. It gives a higher
defense dice roll because it is harder to penetrate.

Though an argument could be made that the wall has no defense dice but 20 BP per square. (Or something like that) Then the defense dice can be skipped and the continuous whacking can begin.

Either way works.

Personaly I like the idea of giveing the wall defence dice. But giving it a butt load of hit points does the job.
